Moving up to 100cc questions

I think some of this depends on your transmitter. I have a Spectrum DX18 that allows the use of a Powersafe rx that eliminates the need for a Wolverine switch. I am using a Tech Aero IBEC as well without issues. The tuned pipe over the canister definitely make the plane more of a hot rod. That is especially true with the DA120 and the RE2's that I have on my Extreme Flight.



On my plane I am running 3900mah lipos instead of the A123 like you mentioned. This will give you more torque and is comparable with the 7955's that you also mentioned. This is not publicized by Hitec though. The Lipos allow instant feedback of the battery status with on board telemetry and I can easily get five or six flights with plenty of safety room. The only downside is the need to pull the canopy to remove and charge. It's a small price to pay for piece of mine though.



On my EF I used a single rudder servo, the JR MP82T. This is more expensive than the hitec 7955 but provides enough torque to keep the rudder under control with only one on my plane. This definitely helps with setup if you are short one channel and probably a cheaper option than two less powerful servos with a matchbox.

Thanks guys, I have a lot to think about, this is going to be a winter build and I wanted to start collecting all the parts. I was looking at Planebender's smooth pipes but need to know if they will quiet down the sound to 95dB at 25 feet (that is my fields requirement)



I currently use a futaba 14sg and was thinking of using 2 7008 (I think) receivers with the 2300 a 123's and wolverine sw I already have.Do you think 2 battery cables to each receiver is enough for 9 servos

But I will say, you can abuse a 100cc - 120cc plane much more then a 40%er.

There are maneuvers that I do with my 50cc & 100cc planes that I would not do with my 40's.

I would be afraid of breaking a wing or fuse.



I feel the 100cc - 120cc planes have best blend of size & strength.

They are able to take some major aduse and are big in size.



But there is nothing like flying a 40.

2 battery inputs to each rx is enough. I would recommend the DLE120. It is an excellent engine.

Ok, here's my 2 cents. I know this is not the normal setup, but it brings me piece of mind when flying. I have had this setup in 30%, 36% and 42% planes. I use 2 rx with 2 5000 mah lipos and 2 Sahara regulators with dual outputs. Have a separate battery for the ignition, that is lipo ready. I split the plane, left aileron, right elevator, throttle servo and one of the rudder servos on on rx and right aileron, left elevator, choke servo and second rudder servo on the second rx. I have matchboxes in the wings for the 3 servos and run one of the power outputs from the regulator to the matchbox so the aileron servos are getting their own power and not pulling it through the rx. On the smaller planes of course you may not need the matchboxes for the ailerons, just letting you know how I have my system setup on my 42% Edge. I have always ran 2 rx, regulators and batteries though. If one side fails, I can still get the plane to the ground in most cases. Fortunately I haven't had the opportunity to test the system yet and hope I don't :)

I must agree... I have two 50cc'ers and two 42%er's. Well, almost two. Sukhoi to be done soon. I do stuff with my 50cc'ers that no one should allow to be done. Full speed aileron/rudder snaps, full speed blenders... KE spins so fast you would think the tail is going to snap clean off...so far, nothing broken. Crazy huh? My 260 (42%) does beautiful and graceful blenders, over the top KE spins...but I really don't dare abuse her. Don't think I will the Sukhoi either. But....I do see LOTS of guys just beatin' the piss outta the 100cc airframes. They are larger than a 50cc and fly so much better. But still lite and small enough to put some wup ass on them and still keep 'em in one piece. GO WITH PAU 100CC. That is absolutely my next airframe.

I like the way you think. I've done near that exact same set-up on two, 37.5+% planes, and it worked beautifully.
 
Big thing I would be concerned about is cg and equipment placement to avoid adding weight. If noise is an issue you need to think of power and cg withthe pipes. Pipes are awesome but on my aeroworks 300 I had to move my smoke pump plus my 5000mah lipo packs, 2 for Rx and 1 for ign and 1 for smoke to the front of the motor box and run a non lightened aluminum spinner with pipes installed. The DA 120 is so powerful that it cans might be a better option for cg. So keep that in mind for flying and the possible weight your adding. As far as power for servos I've always been a fan of a regulator for precision flying just for consistency of servos. For freestyle planes I've been using unregulated lipos.
 
My 100CC set up is JR 8711 servo's, 2 2300 Fromeco A123 packs and a JR DMSS power buss receiver. Since you have the Futaba SG14 2 recievers and a Fromeco wolverine switch would be my setup. I have personally seen the affects are ignition interference in the automotive world and had a DA ignition fail and throw out RF interference and it shut down the optikill that I had including a back up. So there is no question for me that a separate switch, battery, and ignition kill is installed on all my large planes. 3.5-4 oz is not going to affect a 100CC bird. The DA120 is a brute of an engine and love mine. However the DLE, MVVS, and GP engines also seems to be excellent engine choices.

Since noise is a huge concern I would be looking at KS canisters. Tuned pipes are great but I do not think you will meet the noise requirements. From my experience KS cans seems to be quieter than MTW. Mej 28/12 prop would likely be the prop of choice also for noise.

Thanks Guy's I ended up using 2-fromco 5200 li-iron the wolverine sw,ibec,7-savox 1270's 1 savox 1267 2-7008 futaba receivers. Plane flys great. The GP123 w/smooth pipes comes in at 93db at 25" away 2' off the ground in line with the prop
