Well.... :dancing-poop:

Went out to finish up the Yak today and discovered the canopy had warped so badly last night when it was drying that it doesn't fit the Yak anymore :(:omg:

Tried to gently massage it back into place and unwarp it but the new canopy glass broke :face-palm:

I've decided the best approach is to acquire a new canopy hatch from Tony, which is what I originally asked for but must not have made it clear.

Not terribly thrilled right now...:confused:

It had been a few years and about 800 flights since I cleaned my RE3 pipes so I pulled them out last week for cleaning. The last time I cleaned them I used Dawn Power Dissolver and it did a fairly good job. It's a little harder to get now and a whole lot more expensive so I did some searching and found this:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/BRY3/0996/N0441.oap?ck=Search_N0441_-1_-1&gclid=CJeZjOrw1c4CFYQAaQodJBEGtg&s_kwcid=TC|12984|o\\\\\\\'reilly+coupons||S|b|122238392801&pt=N0441&ppt=C0090

I plugged the exit tubes on both pipes and filled them about 1/2 way with the solvent. I stood them up vertically in a particularly sunny and hot area of my driveway. The pipes got very hot in the heat and I shook them up several times a day over the course of 4 days. When I poured the cleaner out there was quite a bit of debris in it. After power rinsing with water there was nothing but bare, clean aluminum for as far as I could see down the pipe. At $25, it's cheaper per Oz. than the Dawn and it did a much better job but that could be because this time I got the pipes hot and let them soak 4 days instead of 2.

Since I had to remove the carb to get the pipes out I went ahead and put a kit in it before I re-installed. I have about 1300 flights on this DA170 and have literally done nothing to it since I bought it except fly it. All the internals looked bright and shiny with a little carbon build up at the exhaust ports which I cleaned out. I have used Stihl synthetic @50:1 since I got it.

Hopefully I'll get to test fly within the next few days.

There has to be something about being retired. Walk around the shop looking up saw an old plane that I had not touched for at least 10 years. And old skybolt that I had scratch built got all excited. Pulled it down started cleaning it up and it looked absolutely great very busy checking everything and change out every I do not like and will hopefully fly it soon. It has an old YS-120 Air chanmber hope all the flappers and disks are ok will finding out soon.
