I like 'em "BIG"!
Looking good Rob. Have you considered using the SFG ? I too usually just put them in a box to be forgotten but I actually tried them on the 330sc and liked them! KE and harrier wing stability was noticeably improved! To bad I had to go and break this one in half :cryin:. The SFG's don't seem to work well there :face-palm:.

Thanks Kelly... I actually did try the SFG's on...., Hmm! I believe it was my VVRC 50cc Slick back in 2012 and then when I got my first 50cc Pilot Edge. (Baby Purp) I really didn't like them too much on the Slick. It changed the overall flight characteristics something horrible. Don't know why as they shouldn't have. Maybe it was the plane, not sure. I tossed them. Then again a few years ago with the lil Edge. I really didn't like them. But that is just me.

Talking about SFG. They do seem to work but I find them to be a real pail in the ?????. Very susceptible to damage and you can no longer get the wing in the wing bags. And last they do look like hell. But I have a question when you gentleman use SFG do you take them on and off to fly the plane.

Oh by the way. I had a thought regarding being broke in half. Personally, I would have wrapped a band of Nascar (duct tape) around the fuse and flew it some more. If the tape can hold at 200 mph and a lot of bumpin' and grindin', (just racing) then I am sure it can hold two pieces of plastic film covered balsa together. But to each his own. LOL.....
I am very happy you are getting a replacement airframe. You deserve it.

Oh by the way. I had a thought regarding being broke in half. Personally, I would have wrapped a band of Nascar (duct tape) around the fuse and flew it some more. If the tape can hold at 200 mph and a lot of bumpin' and grindin', (just racing) then I am sure it can hold two pieces of plastic film covered balsa together. But to each his own. LOL.....

Your very kind! What really turned me on to this new air frame is that it is the "updated" version to the one I did the build thread on. The DL50 and canister should fly it really well as long as I keep it 17 or under. Of course the old one with your:oops: I mean my:D DA70 rocked:attaboy:. If the 50 is not enough I been eyeballing that RCGF 70 .

I use mine when it's not windy, and not too hot, since I'm lazy and don't want to put them on in the heat. And yes I take them on and off. On my Pilot Edge they seem to help quite a bit, but since I'm lazy, I don't run them that often.

I had a really great day today. Started out with breakfast with my two beautiful little girls. Well, they are not so little any longer. One nearly 30, the other now 23. I just love spending time with them when I can. I came home and got to work on the last remaining repairs on the Pilot Edge.
Started by trimming then sanding down the wing tip end cap. Last night I indicated I used 1/64" balsa. But actually it was 1/32". I don't know what I was thinking. Maybe lack of sleep? LOL. Anyway, sanded it down to match the wing surface, cleaned up the sanding dust and replaced the turned back covering. Hey, what the heck? It is too long now. Hmm, guess I will just trim it off. LOL.

Once the covering was back in place and trimmed off, it was time to set the servo arms and re-tune everything. Amazingly, it took all of about 1.9654 seconds. (Yeah, no time at all) I guess it helps when you replace things exactly as they came out. The only thing I was concerned about...is even though it was supposed to be a duplicate wing, not everything is always exact. This time it was.

The amount of throw and deflection of the left aileron is perfectly matched to the same amount as the right wing panel. LOTS!!! Hee hee. Once the servos arms were reattached and programmed I installed the 1/4x20 wing bolt studs. A little blue Loctite and a dab of black CA and those babies are in there for good.

I even took the time to add new exhaust deflectors as I apparently lost one somewhere and they were too short any way. I hate seeing new wood all dirtied up with exhaust splatter. These are the tubes designed for the DLE 55 Pitts. They work perfect for the MTW 75 rear dumps. One medium zip tie and they are good to go.

I may opt to trim them down a little, but right now not a huge concern. With the new Falcon Carbon Fiber 29x9 and 4.5"x5" spinner temporarily bolted in place on the front hub of that beasty 106cs red head, the post Huckfest damage repairs are now complete. And honestly, She looks nearly as new as the day I picked her up. That Pete's 4.5"x6' carbon fiber spinner better look really bad ass on this plane. I kind of like the looks of the Tru-Turn 4.5"x5" spinner. We'll see tomorrow once it arrives. For now, the 107" Pilot Edge is now ready for more action. Hopefully I remember to not get too close to the ground inverted???? LOL

The new to me "BIG" surprise arrived yesterday and I am really excited to get working on it. I am going to keep this one a little under wraps as I proceed with it. Maybe do a dedicated thread to it. I am not planning any huge changes with it except I want to do my very own first time designed covering scheme. It will be a one off very unique and never before done scheme. However for now, since the Edge is finally repaired, I am going to get working on the SD Baby Yak 54. I want to get it completed so I can get the canopy on the Behemoth Yak (2) installed before winter really sets in. Then I can devote "ALL" my time to building and covering the Velox for my friend Bruce and when I need a break from it, I will be working on the covering scheme on the new big "......"! So I still have some projects for this winter. I will be looking forward to our upcoming Spring of '18 flying season.
