I embarrassed how long it took me to build this elevator this far. Just have add the nose piece to the counter balance and the bevels. The most important thing it is perfectly straight, square and light.

Is that the plans-built one or did you redo it?
It’s a new build from an old kit from around 2000. Kit manufacturer tried to make like a jigsaw kit to fit together but not very successful. Nothing ends up square and flat.

Well the second elevator went a lot quicker. knowing the problems I had with the first one this one went a lot better. Got the hole thing done in 4 hours. Just have to wait for the glue to dry then it can be finished.

I like 'em "BIG"!
Did a little number crunching this morning to see what I would like it to weigh. Working from a WQL of 8.5 the plane should not weigh more than 21 to 22 lbs, so this will be my target if possible. Measured the cowl and the front end of the fuselage and a DA 100 and a 120 will fit within the cowl. Will have to be careful on how I split the cowl for the 120.

Did you just say 21-22 pounds with a DA 120? Are you nuts? That thing will be unbelievable. I am going to have to keep my eye on you...you are starting to scare me. LOL

The screw through the tube works fine, but it's easier to get a tight fit with tabs and bolts through the end rib.
See? This is why I pay attention to your projects. Never know when you are going to toss an awesome idea out there.

I really don't like the screw through the tube idea much either. I had a Dave Brown Extra 330L that was designed that way. I was always afraid things were going to start departing the aircraft in mid flight. And truthfully speaking, I have been wondering how I will approach that issue with the Behemoth Stang. Absolutely am not going that route. So, I have decided to adopt similar method as the Jtec Pitts in retaining the wings. I'll share my idea in that thread when I get to that point.

It is what I would like it to be but reality does not always give us what we would like. I do not own 120 so I thought what the hell why not it is lighter than the 100 a little shorter but it is wider at the plugs. Still have measure cowl and see if it doable.
By the way hope everything is OK and glad to have you back.
