I sincerely appreciate your vote of confidence. I did not get the photos of your pick up sensor on the front of your engine. Also the ignition module. Post a couple of photos.
With the way you are about your beloved red heads how could one not listen to your advice. I can see the pics in post #27 above, maybe you just missed them.
It also look's like the pick up sensor was on the other side at one time, or at least there are threaded holes there.

And here is the other side where it look's like pick up mount holes, also shows three different position for the magnet. I assume there is only one magnet left there somewhere, have not used a #11 to see which one is active yet.

I like 'em "BIG"!
I do now...

Here is a couple shots for ya Rob.
I read on another forum that it should be around those numbers but no one ran a Falcon. I love the Falcons and/or the fact that Tim will drill them and have ordered a 32x10. So far it sounds like I have a winner of an engine but if your going to tell me to get another ignition at least tell me which one and where from......
I only see just one component of the entire carb induction system that is not exactly current. You see the black spacer/part between the aluminum carb mounting plate and the aluminum block (reed carrier block) directly attached to the engine case? I am only tossing this out there for those that do not know. That is actually an original design reed cage. They were basically rubber coated on both sides to seal the carb mounting plate and the reed carrier block.

3w_rca_150f_lrg.jpg

They are perfectly fine when new... but I have noticed on my 3w's that had them stock from the factory that after about a year they would start "seeping". Retightening them helps only temporarily. As with anything that is rubberized and then subjected to gasoline...(especially if one is not mindful of ethanol fuels) they will harden and begin to seep/leak. Ethanol fuel destroys them in nothing flat. Now available is an updated aluminum reed cage that utilizes gaskets on both sides of the cage. I kept a close eye on mine and when I did my yearly maintenance before each season of flying, I replaced them with the new aluminum design. All my 3w's now have all aluminum/gasket updates from the carb to the engine case. If and when you decide to replace the cage, be sure to get some of this.

It is highly recommended by the "G" man and is basically the same compound that 3w uses when assembling the motors at the factory. Gerhard uses the same stuff. (Just a very fine light coating on all parts from the carb base plate to the engine case. With corresponding gaskets between each. Be sure to keep the pulse hole aligned with all parts and gaskets.)

As per our telephone conversation, Yup on the ignition. I see the photos now. Right on the money. You know what to order. Sooo also in regards to our telephone conversation.... It was awesome to talk with you. And now I have yet one more added to the list that I "WILL" be visiting when I make a trip out to your neck of the woods. So many of you awesome gents and friends that I look forward to hangin' and flyin' with. Hey Dimes....toss another cheeseburger on the Barbie!!! LOL

If I get this right your saying get rid of pic one, replace with pic two, and dress it up a bit with pic three. Now! I saw the aluminum carb block on AI but could not find the aluminum reed assembly.

Picture one is of the original design "rubberized" reed cage assembly. As I mentioned, they are good for awhile. But I have noticed mine started leaking after about a year. I guess that would depend on how much use they have. I didn't even use the one on my 106. I simply replaced it when I bought the engine new. (Insert anal here) All new 3w engines now come with all the aluminum updated parts. Check the edges and corners of the reeds very carefully. I usually do the water hold test with them if I see no cracks or chips at the edges or corners. If I notice chips or cracks, I don't even waste my time. I simply replace the reeds. Or the cage if not already updated. It is completely up to you if you replace it. Some guys don't even worry about it. They just re-tighten and fly. I would think that Gerhard would have looked at it and if it was questionable, would have contacted the original owner. Maybe he did, maybe the original owner opted to not replace it. I can not say. The new aluminum reed cage is around 60 bucks if I remember correctly. I would have to find an invoice.

Yes, picture two is of the upgraded aluminum reed cage assembly. The reason you do not see them on his website is because he has not listed them. Again, can not say why. I only know I have purchased five of them over the last two years. No, actually four. I replaced the first one on the 157cs after about a year and half of owning it. Second and third were for the 212 two years ago. Fourth was for the 106cs and the last one, (fifth) was for my 170 just last spring.

Picture three is the gaskets and insulator that go between the carb base plate and the carb. If you choose to replace the reed cage, be sure to get a full compliment of gaskets to do the entire procedure. You will love yourself for doing so. Nothing I hate more than reusing a pre-torqued gasket.

Installation order: Engine case, corresponding gasket. Aluminum reed block, corresponding gasket. Updated aluminum reed cage, corresponding gasket. Aluminum carb base, carb base gasket, carb base insulator, carb base gasket, carb. (Note the arrangement of the pulse ports)

Now for the bottom line. I am so anal. Believe me, I really am. If there is an update for something, I will more than likely get it. If there is something more reliable and dependable, you can bet I got my money spent. I know you feel the same way about your Valach engines as I do my "Dub's". And now even my Kolm. I really try to treat them well. In the long run, they treat us (and our planes) well.

Thanks brother, I will give him a call on Monday and get the updates on the way.
Very welcome. The "G" man is a walking book of knowledge. He'll get ya hooked up right proper like. I can hear him now. LOL. He will probably tell you "Unless you are having problems, it is probably not needed at this time". You already know what my response usually is. LOL

Well, I'd rather not have problem's, knowing they may come my way and do nothing is just a dead stick waiting to happen. Want nothing to do with that if avoidable.
