RC estate question... Anyone have any experience with these kits?
Ikon N'West Models Stinson 108, Taylorcraft
Jack Stafford Aircoupe
Wing MFGR A-26/P-38/P-39

I told the family I'd look over the 50 kits and 40 plans to tell them if there is anything worth selling themselves and for the local rc club (yours truly) to have a private garage sale. Trying to see if there is anything I "need" Lots of cool planes, They are clueless when it comes to prices, and so am I for something like this. I am being nice, because I went to school with the guy in charge of selling these. I told him it's a minority of people who actually build kits anymore and it will be hard to sell.

I'm ready to throw down some bills.... especially for all that balsa.

Definitely a lot of balsa there. The sad thing is older RC stuff doesn't carry much value unless you find someone that is looking for something specifically. Not too long ago we had a fellow member pass away in the nineties in one of our clubs and he had a huge amount of RC stuff that he had built up around 60+ or more years.

If I remember correctly, I heard one of the guys say the man that passed away had a bed room that was completely full stacked to the ceiling with kits that had never been touched. He had a workshop full of RC stuff and boxes of engines. What do you even do with all that?

I think the fellow that is trying to sell the stuff is still working with trying to work through all of it and that has been many months ago that he started on this. Most people simply say they are not interested. It is a huge project to take on someone's RC estate and you want to do the right thing yet it is hard to tell the family that the stuff is hardly worth anything and they could simply scrap most of it, or try to give it away.

I see a lot of older kits sell on RCG. It’s a pretty good value guide.

That’s were I found my Robinhood 99.

I would say most of the more recent stuff could probably bring half its value new trying to resell. The older stuff though its all a crap shoot. Some may not bring much and some may be worth quite a bit. Biggest thing I see for you guys trying to resell on RCG is shipping cost getting the stuff out of Alaska.

Nice!!
Let us know how the road noise is. I’m going to buy something more aggressive for my Tacoma when the stock tires wear out.

Report back from my drive this morning. Running anywhere from 65-70mph on the interstate there is just barely noticeable road noise compared to the tires I had on it before, and after about 10 minutes I didn't notice it anymore. One thing I will say with them after a couple trips up and down my driveway. The more aggressive tread likes to grab and throw smaller rocks up into the wheel wells. not bad but the old tires didn't do that. So far I'm happy though and will update you in a month or so. Supposed to be a 50,000 mile tire and I plan to rotate them normally as I have found with this truck if I don't it will wear out the rear tires a little quicker.

The only thing that I would be interested in is the balsa. But that is risky balsa if not stored correctly goes bad, or what quality is the stuff. I would be interested in everything but like you said the cost to ship.

Thanks for the input guys. Your thoughts are on par with what I was thinking. Pretty much going to have to give them away on dollars. I’ve already been looking on RCG to find anything of value and really the Ikons and the Aerocoups are the largest dollar items at $250 IF someone wanted to buy them. Then loose $35 to ship. The thing that gets me is that’s also assuming everything is complete! Hard indeed

And yes shipping from AK makes things worse for resale.

Not sure what you guys think. But that balsa has to be worth a grand or more... what does a fellow offer? Three bills?

If it is truly contest grade balsa and it is all around 6 lbs or less per cubic foot it well worth 300
