Perhaps I am paranoid, but I fear the hammer is starting to drop:( I sure hope the hobby I love will continue as I have always known.

I honestly believe we will be nearly unscathed, especially outside of airports. Of course the registration and test will be here along with the 400' might be staying. I think the FAA is doing the best they can to satisfy the law and yield enough right of way for us. Don't get me wrong, there will be regulations, but as long as one is abiding by the rules one will be fine. If you slide outside of those rules then look out. And quite honestly I also believe we all knew this was coming with the idiots out there impeding responders and the such as there was no law for them to be hit by. Well there is now!!!!

Well, if you read between the line's they have more or less said it. You have to keep in mind, Congress passed a law, the FAA has to enforce that law but was given the authority to do so how they best see fit. The FAA has actually said back near the beginning of this that we are not of interest to them as far as stopping us. But they have to do something to give the local authorities and themselves the means to regulate the idiots. I do not for one minute believe all of this is for the commercial drone as they were already set in a class by themselves. It is the idiots flying over stadiums, forest fires, the white house lawn, people, and structures that is the problem. My only real quarrel with this is that the FCC could have shut it down simply by making transmittable video illegal without a license. That would have stopped the production of quads and the like with cameras, strictly line of sight. Now I know the FPV people don't like the idea of this but at least it would have preserved model aviation. And who knows, maybe that would not have changed a thing, but I can't remember ever seeing a fixed wing in the news for flying somewhere it should not. Not saying it does not happen but so rarely we don't hear of it unlike the multi-rotors, seems like a weekly event for them.

I would also like to add that for airfields outside of the limited or no fly zone I still don't think it will be a problem, even the 400'. Seriously, how are they going to know, the average pilot don't even know. The FAA said model aircraft will not be required to have an onboard transponder thingy so how will anyone know. And for those clubs that have that one butt wipe that would threaten to call on someone, vote and kick them out, they are trouble makers anyway trying to dictate their beliefs on others.
I have a pasture behind my house and fly here often, there is no way anyone can show that I am flying outside of the 8 rules, including the ceiling. I don't have to worry about those close to me as they usually pull out a lawn chair and watch. I have even had a couple of those motorized paraglider thingies hang around behind my flight line watching which means even they know where and how I fly. Only problem is when I hear them coming I land. One came down the runway one day and yelled take her up. Don't think he heard me yell not while your there.
Point is, 99% of the populous don't give a rats petunia about us including the FAA.

So, be smart, fly safe, yield the right of way, and stay the hell away from people and structures. Our hobby may very well depend on it.

It's really hard when your a pessimist and an optimist, being able to see both side's is something that I was taught at a young age. And I like to think we are an inherently good and reasonable race, for the most part.
