Our club had our Big Bird event today. Unfortunately I had work to do, but I did manage to spend a pile of money there. A club member donated an old Byron P-51 with the belt drive 4 blade prop system to the club to be auctioned off. The club president was kind enough to bid on it for me and I won it for less than my top bid. I went out and got it after work. The plane is around 25 years old, and has never been flown. It will need lots of work and updating, but I've wanted one since the late 80's.

I need it like a hole in the head and certainly don't have room for it. When I brought it in the house I'm pretty sure I heard my Pilot Decathlon moan something like "What about me!"

Got new gaskets from DA, also another gasket kit for the carb, except this time I changed the diaphragm needle as well. Fingers crossed she runs like she used to.

Awe yeah, paid off. Set the needles where I had had them before the initial rebuild and this puppy purrs like a kitten. Confidence was boosted! My smiling face had returned and was back to normal!

One down on your bucket list. One thing I am sure of none of us will recognize it when you are done with it.

Have a question for the Futaba boys. Have a person at our field with a very cheep Futaba radio and wants to up grade but I do not know the radio system at all but what I do know is a Spectrum DX 9 would do him just great at this stage of his flying endeavour. Can you please recommend a Futaba equivalent that I can recommend to him thanks.

Hmmm, really depends on his budget and what size planes he's into. The DX9 is nice, have several friends using that radio at a good price point too. Futaba is pricing themselves higher than the competitors right now. I would say that in the 9CH range options are limited. They make an 8, 10, 12 channel with a different protocol than the higher end products. With that said, if he cannot afford a 16SZ (touch screen, FASSTEST at the lowest model), the 12K would be the cheaper option with a familiar interface (like the 8FG used to have) and with an updated look like the newer models (16-18SZ). I have not used these radios with the T-FHSS protocols So I am honestly no help.

If your friend does not foresee going into a larger size in the next few years the 10J is a very nice radio. It is a little bit restricted by way of the S-FHSS and T-FHSS protocols but within those parameters it is very capable. But if he is going to expand then by all means go with the 14SG, it has all the capabilities one can ever use.
Go here https://futabausa.com/product-category/systems/air-systems/ to see the radios currently available, what they offer, and how they operate. And if he is interested in the S or T FHSS systems the 12K is on sale for far less than the 14SG and is a real nice radio.
