91" SkyWing ARS 300 Assembly Thread

Put the cowl and spinner on. Cowl is four Allen bolts, and the spinner is matched painted carbon. All included!

You guys know what this means??
I’m done. Just waiting on weather so I can run the engine a do a test flight. I will check my CG first though.

Did you use any of the CF venting? Just starting my build. Plane is one bad mamma jamma.

Nope! Just the one for the first opening in from of the tunnel where they made that neat air exit baffling.
They even integrated an air dam into the cowling. Thought about opening up the air dam area in the cowl. But sometimes efficient airflow is better than a lot? With the strait muffs I don’t see the need to open up the aft fuselage.

Did a wingtube hang, empty. It weighs 19.3lbs level flight on the tube. 19.5 with two 2550 2S LiPos. Excellent for hanging a 76cc twin up front. Weighs 1.5 pounds less than my 110” timber with a 55cc LOL!!

My thoughts exactly....with the air damn I don’t see much air going into the fuse. I thought about adding the small one just to dissipate some heat from the power source but I think I’ll wait and see how much heat is created in there. I think they were mainly included if you decided to use canisters.

New to GSN!
One thing that drives me nuts is the fuel dot and the vent they included. I got a purple fuel dot and blue fuel vent lol. I don’t think they will look to good on my red and white plane so I think I need to replace those. I’m considering doing the same thing you did with the servo wires. I’ll be running HV servos all around and like you id rather avoid a future issue with the 22g wires. I’m sure they would be fine but might as well do it to be on the safe side. Unfortunately October in Indiana is basically more winter than fall and usually the windiest time of the year with our first snow usually showing it’s face around Halloween. If I had the motor and servos I could probably finish in a day or 2 but trying to buy everything without using credit cards since I don’t see it flying to much this year no point in rushing to get it finished. You made a great build series and given the fact the manual I found is an older version and some of it just doesn’t apply and it’s not that great of a manual. Not my first build so I found it very easy to figure out. Really liking this plane so far and it looks like it’s very well put together. I haven’t run into any issues you had everything looks to be in great shape and fits together with tight tolerances. I went back in forth for about 2 months on getting the 91” EF Laser or the 91” ARS 300 and Tim talked me into the ARS and glad he did. He also mentioned he is putting together a better manual for the plane which I think is great even though I told him everything is pretty much self explanitory if you have ever built a plane before. I’ll be going with a DA70 and promodler DS470BSHV all around and a DS345BLHV for the throttle servo. Glad to know it balances well with a twin. I also figured it would be good to go with the push pull servo for the rudder in hopes to offset some to the front weight of the twin. I did have a brain fart and opened up the right side of the rudder for the control horns not realizing the left side was already open lol. Easy fix though I just ran some black pin striping on both sides to cover the slots on the left actually looks kinda nice. Looking forward to hearing your opinion on how it flies with the GP. I’m still considering saving a few bucks and going that route but DA70 is an engine I really like. Keep us updated on your thoughts.

Should fly great with either engine. I also had the purple fuel dot LOL! Couldn’t do it, so used Tim’s Blue magnetic fuel dot instead. The only thing to think about with the PMs is the shaft splines are shallower (shorter) than other brands. So some servo arms may not fit. Kindof annoying. I used a PM DS305 in my timber throttle and I like it, but had to use the plastic servo arm it came with.
No sense going into debt, make each step fun and take your time when the funds show up. Snow has hit the mountain tops here and I feel your pain!
I left the 22awg wires for the wings. 20Awg for the tail. Running brushless
Which are pretty efficient too on the juice.

I ran into this which confused me. The wing servo wire guides don’t line up the the opening much as all. So I will not use them. Only 1/4 of the grommet is showing.
