So we've got @WMcNabb to thank for this one! He put an engine in the classifieds for FREE!

http://www.giantscalenews.com/threads/evolution-26cc-gas-engine-and-accessories.10877/

and of course, being the first to happen upon it, I grabbed it. The plan was to put it in a 1/4 scale Cub that I had just bought but it didn't really fit with the firewall being what it was. It had been in my head to build a 90 sized Kaos so it seemed like a good idea to scratch out a big Kaos for the engine.

But it's hard for me to just open up a set of plans and put every stick where every line is. I see the plans and my brain starts wanting to change things around, and when I'm not even thinking about it, my brain is working on it.

So that's why I'm classified as coming from the crazy bin but here's the plan......that little electric pattern plane is a 3D Hobby Shop Aspera. I'm pretty sure it's very similar to what is now called the Vanquish. The fuselage profile is going to be similar to the Aspera but the proportions and the flying surfaces are going to be like a 2 meter Kaos.

The wings will plug in, the engine will be side mounted with a pipe down the belly, I have Eflite electric retracts with a tailwheel, and it'll get an OpenTX receiver for control.

Not much has been done yet but I'm following the design philosophy of a guy on RCG that just starts throwing down sticks and doesn't get too caught up in where they go.

The plans for this started with a pencil line down the sheet rock on my bench with a few other lines to figure out the general outline and the rest will be made up as it goes along. Come hell or high water, it's going to be light and it's going to be built fast so don't expect a contest winner.

But with the engine and the thick wing of the Kaos it should fly nice, I hope. :)

Here's a few pics, I'll post more as it goes together.

that's very nice of you to say Chris since there isn't much there yet!

it'll look a lot better when there's some Express Pawn & Gun swag on the vertical stab. :yesss:

I just had Dennis make me up a fresh batch of decals. I’ll send some your way. Just let me know what color you want. :)

need to draw up bulkheads and formers for the belly. both of my vintage autocad copies are inop and the Solidworks version I have access to is like reinventing the greek language so it will be a while before i can go there. currently downloading a 30 day free trial of autocad and then it'll be back to work on this. there's gotta be a recess in the belly for the pipe otherwise I'd be roughing out curves with a french curve so let's see if I can get anything done today and maybe we'll have a firewall and some formers in place tonight.

@BalsaDust i think it was you that tackled Solidworks, kudos to you!
