What characteristic are you feeling that you don't like? I haven't got to 5-3/8" yet. Currently 5" Loaded - 5-1/8" empty. Really need to make a baggage compartment in the empennage for this plane to put the batteries in. Too bad there isn't a push-pull rudder servo option either.
I was thinking about cutting in a rudder servo on the bottom fuselage just in front of the tail spring mount. I have this setup on the Ultra Stick and really like it. The wire spring setup similar to what you've considered has stood up to tremendous thrashing on the beach. With my rudders out on the ends of the horizontal stab I went with some mini servos rather than elaborate linkages. I'd run push/pull to the rudder on one side of the servo arm and one to the tailwheel on the timber.

@Snoopy1 I am going to try and order an extra tail leaf as well, or make one, because mine only had two springs and while they are currently holding up, I don't trust from what I have heard on here they will last much longer...

And for those of you wanting pics of the LE slats, here are some updated photos from my backyard runway with how the plane currently looks!

Looking awesome! They really did a nice job with the lines of the cowling/windshield. Looks great on those big tires.

Looks simple and effective but the linkage is solid and the servo gearing is surviving with out and spring . The Tailwheel on the plane it came with the plane looks good and solid.

The control arm on the tailwheel fork is floating on silicone tube bushings, so there’s some give.

Here is what the Xcub tailwheel looks like vs. the stock. My stock one bent over time, and I ended up smacking my rudder with it on a landing. Looking forward to testing this one out. It is much more substantial.
I bought a replacement Rudder - and they come shipped inside a Heavy Cardboard sandwich. Really nice.

VERY NICE! Is this the new big XCub Or the one that’s been out for a while?

What is the DIA of the wheel?

I just flew my Timber today. I need to tighten up my springs some more. The sand requires a lot of torque

Just got back from flying the timber. Haven’t had a chance to put on the slats yet.
Need to tighten the springs on the tailwheel the sand requires a lot of torque.
Forgot my SD card for the GoPro, so no video.
Had to end my outing early when a tail high/flap landing in some soft sand made the prop strike a mound with a rock in it.... time for a new prop.
This plane is a hoot with a little breeze.

Nick this is from the Xcub 60cc -- same model we get the sprung gear from. The wheel looks to be 2.75
