THE PLEASURE OF A BUILDING SEASON

CDNSCOT

New to GSN!
I often hear guys in my neck of the wood complain about the sometimes short flying season. Spring here on the Atlantic coast can be wet and windy, summer can be the same at times to. Fall weather is often a pleasant mix and unless you like flying in cold and snow,it's building season. Once winter prep is out of the way, final lawn cutting, leaves raked and bagged, firewood stacked( if you heat with wood), and a good selection of beer in the man cave fridge for the first part of the build season,it's time to chose the winter build project.
To you folks who have the good fortune to be in year round flying zones,it must be tough to have to decide on a nice flying day,do I fly or do I build. This is one decision I don't mind being made for me.
Here's hoping everyone has a good building season no matter where you are.

Building season is good! I've got the shop all decked out for the holidays and spent a fun day working on my 43% Carden Edge project. Started working on the stabs on the center island bench tonight.

Notice the stocking ready for Santa to fill, the windsock tree topper, and the cool Ornament of Santa flying an RC plane hanging on the tree! Hey.... This is supposed to be fun, right?

Thanks!

I probably went a little overboard on the ambience, I guess. Airplanes, Posters, prop on the wall, P-40 ceiling fan (yes that's a 12 ft high basment ceiling), Patty Wagstaff autographed photo, etc. Figured I better put a Flat screen, TV, Surround sound system, Blue Ray, Dish Network, etc. for listening to sounds of Red Bull Air Racing and such while building too. Even have an oversized Lazy Boy recliner (I'm 6' - 4" tall) in one corner for those "breaks" from building. The Red Baron stuff is mostly memoriablia. Their retired air show announcer, Jerry VanKempen, the "Voice of the Red Barons," lives just a few miles from me and used to be a member of our RC club. That, and I actually have a little stick time in one of their airshow Steraman bipes. Great memories. The cardboard Stearman is pretty rare. Only given out to select grocers and a few lucky individuals like me. Probably only worth 50 cents, but lots of sentimental value.

FWIW, when the one photo was taken, Ice Pilots was playing on the TV and I was framing a WWRC 30cc YAK profile....now one of my favorite 3D planes for smaller fields.

I LOVE to burn gas, nice days, flying till it's dark and sometimes not getting home till midnight.....that's what I call living. But when the white crap starts falling and the air starts to hurt your face I really can't wait to start building. It started as a challenge to see if I could do it and then quickly spiraled from there. Always something new to challenge with building!!!

I have my share of ARF's but they are usually a 2-3 day build even with some mods so they are no challenge and never hold up as long as a good kit or scratch built plane. I really wish we could get more people back into building. So far on GSN we have a huge number of builders and threads going so that is great!!!!

Closet PROBRO. lol I have been bitten by the profile bug. They are loads of fun and have occupied 95% of my build time here for quite some time now. (I'm sure this is when Terry ask me how the cowl for my cap is coming along)?
