The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Drove up north 7 hours Friday to meet up with Dave Planebender Sullivan and a couple other friends to fly Saturday. Fog moved in over night but that didn't bother us. We just kept it under the 100 foot ceiling (we don't fly any higher anyhow) and had the complete place to ourselves. Did some...

    Desert Aircraft vibes

I am not an engineer but I would think the shaking in the air would be more than on the ground since no one is holding the plane for support absorbing some of the vibration.

3D Fibertech Hyperlite Slick 540 Build Thread

The filler was easy and did the trick, Thank you for all the input. The belly pan is in the bag now! Probably won't get to much more done this week, I'm getting the trailer and planes ready to head up to Planebenders neighbor hood for and extended weekend of flying and raising hell. Oh and...

OK totally makes sense now. That's a difficult maneuver to overcome I would guess when cutting the foam. It so small but I was just worried with the vacuum it would really pull the balsa down.

I had planned on using one of my DA's but I'm a little concerned about the shaking thing. I decided this project deserves a new engine so I just got the GP and will put it in one of my planes for about 20 - 30 flights and start breaking it in. Good to know we are close on the weight.

Ok this helps a lot, Thank you. I was not sure what to use and was going to experiment. I thought just about everything eats foam LOL. I have that same filler and will use it tonight. Thank you again

I am not to worried about this as it's the bottom belly pan. It has a low cut spot in the middle, what should I fill it in with or should I shave the sides down to match? Should I glue in scrap foam and shape it? I never flew or worked with foam planes so no experience here. Thanks

I have decided on a GP 123 with Smooth pipes http://www.planebenderproducts.com/page18/index.html the med ones. I have a couple of these on other planes and they are very smooth transition with a substantial gain in power. Makes it possible to fly 3D without the on-off feel of a tuned pipe but...

Looking forward to checking that out. Are you going with one or two rudder servos in the tail or pull pull? I am going to use Smooth pipes so I think I will need the weight in the tail.

First attempt at the vacuum was a success. And actually easy at that. Back in the old days its was difficult to get 100% pressure all the way around with just cement blocks. The pump works great for a little guy but I may invest in a bigger one as I plan to do more builds and would like to do...

Looks great, your moving right along nice. It's hard to see but is that a carbon strip on the foam? It looks like the carbon I got for mine as referred by Terry. I am just about to start the sheeting. How did you like the vacuum pump?

Thanks Stang I know I tease you a lot about our weather and it is great but this fricken place is expensive! I have been all over our country and lived in a few different places and they all have great things but I just cannot leave this weather. But dam I have to put up with liberal Waco's and...
