At least he did manage to bring the cowl back with him! Look mom! No visible mounting screws! Nice! You gotta see this thing in person... it does not look like an ARF... it looks custom. I can't say how it will fly, but I love the way it looks. I'd be very proud to have it at an event, etc.

Whoa! I didn't see that coming! haha I didn't even know Monkey was in Colorado! Says he was helping Rocco get all the cowls ready to ship, that's his story anyway, who knows what he was really up to? Monkey business, no doubt!

Been waiting on the cowl, but something just showed up at the door... wonder what is inside?

I got some of this oil to try... but I have been reading it's too much trouble so I'm going to stick to BelRay H1-R @ 50-1 like usual.

I started working on covering the top of the wing that... cough... Monkey screwed up. ;) All finished up. I told Monkey, "And, do not do it uh gain!"

Received my prop bag from Carden today, too! This is another quality item that I always have used:

My deluxe drill jig arrived today! You can see a standard drill jig in the background. Check out the washer on my deluxe drill jig! haha Comes with the two bolts and drill bit, too. As they say, "Only drill one time - ready !" So true with these! Don Hamp made the most awesome video about...

    3D H9 1/3 Cap 232 - Blast from the past!!!

Yeah, I had only been flying a couple of months when I got mine back in 2001. I thought it looked great, but what occurs to me now is that I didn't know that it was really a state of the art ARF. I never really thought much about H9 after that. But, after getting their 3.1m Sukhoi recently it...

Happy to, dhal22! I think people could run into some challenges with these hinges, but with the 12 steps I think they'll be good. :) Here are the final 12 steps: Glue the control surfaces first and let them setup before installing them in the plane 1) Lube the hinge with a thick coating of...

Okay, 100% success with the elevators with this method (slot end to slot end with no binding, over 60 degrees of travel): Glue the control surfaces first and let them setup before installing them in the plane 1) Lube the hinge with a thick coating of lube 2) Glue the hinge in to the control...

I'm going to try my theory out on the elevators (these elevators, with the hinges installed dry, still had binding, which would make sense if the pins are not lined up, we need to line them up, I think), and report back. I speculate that the following method will be good for getting a decent...

Okay, but here's what I speculate is the crux. And, if I'm right I'm kinda mad at myself because this is what worried me when I first went to glue in the hinges. I looked at the job, then looked at the instruction manual, then said to myself, "really?". I then called Rocco for, and I quote...

Okay, some good and bad about the hinging. One thing I want to make clear is it doesn't take any time. 14 years ago on even the nicest ARFs you had to cut your own hinge slots. And, then glue them. Here you only have to glue them in and that does not take any time. If you glue the surfaces...

Coming along nicely! I told my buddy to get this plane for his four cylinder, too. Gotta remind him he'll need to chop the motorbox. Course I'd love to do that for him with my new chainsaw. hehe

Took care of the other wing and changed the black stripe on top to blue.

Hinging tips and tricks for this plane: I didn't mention one point... if you glue it all at once you will not be able to check to see if each hinge swings freely stop to stop. But, if you glue the surfaces only, and let them setup... then you can check each hinge to make sure it will swing...

Hi dhal! Yes, I stripped the covering off the wing, then recovered it in white, then applied blue stripes to the bottom. I still have to apply the factory red piece on the top. Monkey messed that one up to... those things are really torched on there! hobbiest: Joe, what happens if I try to...

Ah geez, bad monkey, bad monkey.:msn_slap: haha Thanks about the stripes. :) And, yeah, the hinges look odd at first, but do seem like they'll hold up forever (if done right, I'll get into that later), like everything else on this plane.

Thing about Monkey that you have to understand... he's a frustrated builder. Add to that his duties "on the bag" (protecting my Taylormade driver for the last eight years without so much as even looking at a model airplane), and you have a monkey on the loose situation, you see? ;) Thing is...
