Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

After the auction this morning came home and blocked the wings with 220 and put the second layer of 3/4 ounce cloth on. Tried something different, spread the cloth out on the wing, painted there lines of epoxy 1" wide down the span, then used a credit card to squeegee out the excess. More work...

Bought this seat from I Fly Tallies when I was building the Champ, decided it wasn't the right fit. Put it on the shelf. The seat looks like it belongs in a private jet. Found this photo of a 1966 Cherokee. Decided to see if I could make the seat work for the Cherokee. Sawed the bottom...

Taking a plane to auction on Saturday that had a little mishap during landing, hit an area on the runway that the skunks were working on, the left wheel hit the rolled up grass and flipped the plane over breaking the canopy. I'm not interested in repairing the plane because I'd rather work on...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Drillsandcutters.com I get end mills and drill bits from them. Funny thing, I bought these from one of their emailings but can't seem to find then on their site.

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Drills and Cutters.com had a sale on short stub drills. I stocked up on the tap and drill size bits for 4-40 through 8-32, some sizes were out of stock, some were low. Most were under $.50 each

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Yest that is it, zoomin on the second photo I sent and you can see that the fairing is not flat but humps up. The balsa under the windshield is not there on the full scale, only on the outside. Here's another view.

The curved things under the windshield, look at the photo, see the fairing butt against the windshield, not under it. Zoom in on this photo.

Thank you Snoopy. Bungeed the Cherokee carrier to a step ladder and then bungeed the fuselage onto the carrier to hold the fuselage vertical while the position of the engine was adjusted. Didn't source the spinner yet so a 3 1/2" plywood disc was use to align the engine. Once happy, the...

Working on the servo pockets and hatches. The wing is rather thick so decided to mount the servos upright, or downright since they on the bottom of the wing. Pinned a fence to the wing made from scrap balsa. Using the router attachment cut .025" deep groove around the servo pocket, short...

I suspect some of the problem is the fairing should be on the outside rather the the inside.

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

With frise type hinges on the flaps, the upper wing surface needs extended because the flap leading edge pulls away from the wing trailing edge as the flaps are deployed. Thought about how I would do this and decided to use .025" thick G10 that was on hand. Used double sided carpet tape to...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

20 years ago I bought a ZDZ 80 RV, pipe, and JMB can at the Toledo show from RC Showcase, I was instructed not to cut the pipe as it was quarter wave tuned, I followed the recommendation and built the can into the plane. The package was very effective. Sold the plane at auction this past fall...

Tonight was the monthly meeting for the Indiana Flyers Club. One of our members hosts the meeting every month at his under used shop, beautiful work place. He sets a table up for me every month for show and tell. Took the Cherokee and a set of scales, came in at 18 pounds as you see it, minus...

It's been a while (2004) since I have cut foam core wings, most of my builds use foam rib wings, I forgot how nice it is to have the shucks to hold thing place. The right wing hinging came out great. Hope this left does as well.

Have the wing side of the flap hinges completed. Drilled the pivot holes with a a #23 drill and pressed 5/32 od K&S brass tube in, the tubes are cut and sanded flush to the G10 material. Made a fixture to locate and hold the G10 while the Gorilla glue foams and cures. Need to make a seperate...
