    Is a DLE-61 any good?

I've been flying a DLE 61 for a couple of seasons now. I don't have a tremendous amount of time on it but it has always been dependable and smooth running. Not as powerful as a DA or GP but certainly very respectable. It likes the more or less standard Falcon 24-9 carbon prop very well. I'd buy...

Anyone ever seen engine metal like this?

When pylon racing, I had a couple of engines ingest parts and they would pretty much keep running until something dislodged the glo plug element or there was a serious mechanical failure / lockup. It was amazing how long an engine can run even with serious things happening inside. You know when...

    Any Monokote users here?

Bipeguy, very, very nice work! I especially like your tasteful trim schemes. It seems so many planes look like circus wagons these days with excessive swoops, curves, points galore and of course excessive graphics. Yours are very tastefully done and look like airplanes!

    Any Monokote users here?

I have had rolls from the same batch be slightly different color. I'm thinking they don't keep the color mixed well during production so it varies a bit from the start to the end of a production run. Just a guess though.

    Any Monokote users here?

A bit of humor for those who prefer Monokote to Ultracote. My friends opinion of Ultracote so he put it on a shirt. For the record I use both coverings and get along fine with them but he is a diehard Monokote user and does beautiful work.

    New Paint Gun advice needed

3M Accuspray gun, first impressions. I took @Terryscustoms advice and bought the 3M Accuspray kit along with the mini cups. I'll call it the "Plastic Fantastic" paint gun as other than a few hardware items, the whole thing is molded plastic. For those not familiar with the system, this is a...

Very nice Pitts! No question, when Monokote works like it should it gives the best finished product.

Both of those spinners are beautiful! And the polished one hasn't collected any finger prints yet.

    Any Monokote users here?

Over the years, I have always bought the large rolls .... Monokote, Ultracote or Solartex. But on my last project, I bought a large roll and it was the nasty Monokote that would not shrink or stick to itself. I gambled and bought several 6' rolls that worked great except for the scratch problem...

    New Paint Gun advice needed

I ordered the 3M16580 kit from Amazon yesterday. This thing really caught my interest. I spent some time doing my homework on some of the auto body forums and couldn't find any negative comments about the product. Several users commented about their expensive guns collecting dust now. I should...

    Glassing and Painting techniques

I forgot, when testing for flexibility I always do the tests on plastic bags or plastic wrap. When cured, you can peel the paint film off and bend it. Base coat / clear coat films will always crack when they are bent towards the clear ... clear to clear. You will see the crack develop in the...

    Glassing and Painting techniques

Terry, I used both of the Nason clears. The panel clear flashes off way too fast for my taste. The multi panel one works pretty good. I still prefer the Dupont product though. For model use, I've found the higher temp catalysts work the best so the surface is still open when you come back to...

    New Paint Gun advice needed

Ace, I just went on Google and entered "3M Accuspray system" and several popped up along with lots of useful information. If this gun system works half as good as Terry says it does it will be perfect for hobby use. Thanks again Terry!

    Glassing and Painting techniques

I have an account with TCP Global so will check them out. I used some of the Nason clear with mixed results but that was before I learned the blender trick. It went on slick but dried with a bit of texture that I didn't like. The dealer said I wasn't the first to complain of that. I think I...

    Glassing and Painting techniques

The first time I used the blender, I quickly noticed it doesn't hang on the surface like straight clear does. It also acts like a high temp reducer and doesn't flash off as quickly as the straight clear does. Flow and open time is excellent.

    New Paint Gun advice needed

OK, I'm sold! Will order one. I had no idea such a gun even existed. I thought I'd be spending twice that much for an Iwata or something similar. I found the same 3M kit even cheaper at some other online sources.

    Glassing and Painting techniques

Terry, what paint brands are you using? Some of the older higher VOC paints (Urethanes) are becoming harder to find and the ones still available seem to constantly change. As a hobby user these days, things can change and become out of date between uses and my leftovers may not be compatible...
