    Show Me the Biplanes!!!!

The Eagle is totally different. It's wider with a different canopy and ailerons. Based on the Pitts of course.

    3D EMHW 2.15 Ultimate

Working on the trim for the wings. The trim is positioned with windex and squeegeed out and left to dry for a day. Then all the edges are wiped down with trim solvent. Then once that is all dry the edges with overhang are tacked down with the iron, overhang trimmed and the edge sealed with...

    3D EMHW 2.15 Ultimate

Did the covering in a bit of an odd order. Needed to get at the struts from underneath the plane to bolt them in. Figured the front deck would be much easier to cover without the struts in place so covered it first. Left the bottom open so I could bolt the struts in. Used the windex on glass...

Need some advice on a new 30cc 3D plane.

The Jtec is roughly the same dimensions as the stock muffler and an oz or two lighter. It's $99 on their site right now, I bought the standard size. The 30cc size tends toward being a little underpowered with gas so having that extra 650+ rpm and swinging a bigger prop will making learning...

Need some advice on a new 30cc 3D plane.

Get an aftermarket pitts muffler, can or pipe for the OS33. The stock muffler kills power. I got about 650 more rpm switching to a Jtec pitts muffler. Spins a Falcon carbon 20x8 around 7500. Flying an EF 78 Extra which seems very stable and easy to 3d.

    Basic engine tuning.

I probably sound like a broken record:) When a rear carb engine runs leaner with the carb diaphragm plate facing the ground and richer facing away I'd suspect weak pop off pressure. There is a little spring under the level under the diaphragm plate. It's likely too weak causing low pop off...

    DLE-30 Dies When Inverted

If an engine goes lean or rich in positions corresponding to the direction of the diaphragm plate in relation to the ground the pop off pressure is likely low and the fix is a stronger or longer spring. When the plate faces away from the ground the engine runs rich and towards the ground...

    ZDZ 112 Champion mounting

Awesome the midrange is still smooth!! I'm planning on keeping it simple and running mufflers.

    ZDZ 112 Champion mounting

I think TBrum was running 14.5 inch headers with the ES pipes. The engine might be a little more prone to getting hot if the headers are shorter than the peak RPM length. Hows the midrange compared to mufflers?

    Any Monokote users here?

If you go from the middle out in small sections like TBrum shows in this video there won't be much trouble with bubbles.

    Glassing and Painting techniques

That's really nice of you Terry and I just might take you up on that! We've got the equipment down here, but my guidance would be furniture guys and while they do excellent work on furniture I'm sure I'd be missing quite a few of the finer points using automotive paint.

    Glassing and Painting techniques

I would use an auto system. Otherwise that outline looks right? Do you do much after applying clear? Sanding/cutting polish?

    Glassing and Painting techniques

After reading the thread I'm trying to put a high level process outlined for painting. Starting with a prepared surface either glassed balsa or fiberglass cowl etc... First coat primer --> Dry sand 320/fill pinholes with glaze --> Second coat primer --> Wet sand 400, optional 600 -->...

    Any Monokote users here?

^That's too bad. I've seen a few imperfections on the covering so far, but nothing to the point I'd cut around it. The whole issue with Monokote is really weird. Some covering seems to be about useless for people and then some of us get lucky and the rolls we get or the colors we happen to...

    Any Monokote users here?

What colors are you trying? Metallic Blue, Aluminum, Orange and clear all seem to be adhering and shrinking just fine. Seams will tear the covering before they come apart at the higher heat settings although this is more heat than I like to use for that exact reason. I did a bunch of tests...

    3D EMHW 2.15 Ultimate

Haha, I didn't take any of this into consideration when putting the plane together... I'll be using the windex method a bunch. I played around with it to make sure I had it working before I started with the monokote. Didn't want to end up painting myself into a corner if I couldn't.

    3D EMHW 2.15 Ultimate

The covering continues. It goes really smoothly once I figured out what the covering will do and what it won't. Any concave "angles" are tough. They may be possible with enough heat/stretching, but I just cheated and pre-placed little patches so I could cut the excess overhang into easily...

It needs heat. Do you use a heat gun for stretching around curves? I was using the iron turned all the way up.

    3D EMHW 2.15 Ultimate

It's going to take quite a bit of patients at the rate I can cover. Think that rudder took about 4 hours. I'll get the hang of it though. Learning to stretch/shrink around the curves will take some practice.

    3D EMHW 2.15 Ultimate

Against the advice of friends and family I've decided to dance with the rainbow devil and try my hand at monokote. It's so shiny!! Slightly less reflective than the mirror :big-grin: Made a skin by overlapping two pieces by about 10mm on glass with windex and after squeegeeing the windex...
