Nice workshop Robert. I'm amazed with the speed you put it together - same pace as your builds. Jaketab

Thanks Robert, In the pic I supplied, the 7mm brass tube in the rear hole will extend to the 2nd rib - however there is no anchor or mounting hole in the 2nd rib. The only idea I have is to make a mounting hole out of lite ply and attach it to the 2nd rib. I can then complete the sheeting...

Robert, Do you have any photos of the (inside) top wing pins and tube. I'm looking for some direction before I sheet and close the underside of the top wing on the Pitts. Included with the kit were 2 - 7mm brass tubes and a 6mm steel rod. I gather these are to be used for the rear mounting...

Thanks Robert, Sometimes need a little assurance. Very hard to undo mistakes. So it would appear that the upper and lower beams between 1 and 3 spars would need to be unpinned from the rails in order to effect the taper and keep the ribs perpendicular to the spar ??? Yes/No ?? This is similar...

    2. This question concerns ribs 1 - 3. The web spacer for rear spar of the upper wing bridges ribs 1-3. The spacer is 3mm thicker at rib 1 then it is at rib 3. The web spacers (2) for the leading spar are a 2mm taper beginning at rib 3 down to rib 1. In order to keep ribs 1-3 at a right angle...

Questions regarding the upper wing of the 58% Pitts in the following 2 posts. 1. The plan appears to show a doubling of the 1st root rib. The outer rib appears as if it's a cap on the end of the wing. Is the end rib made up from balsa scrap to cap the root rib to provide an area to sand and...

Ran into a slight problem before starting the upper wings on the Pitts 3.04. The building rails are warped (twisted) to the point I do not feel comfortable using them to build the upper wings. The rails appear to made from a dark wood (possibly walnut). It takes more force then a nail can...

With lower wings framed up, I'm ready to start on the upper wings of the 58% Pitts. Any major difference - advice or precautions before beginning ?????? Thanks - Jaketab

Jetpainter - from looking at the pic, the tray appears to be a Seacraft.

Ace, Not to get into an Ackerman discussion, but sometime back I was fortunate to discover a Pull Pull calculator that measures all different parameters including the slack in the wires. As long as the wires are not crossed and both pivot axis is on the hinge line (no offset) then there is...

I believe the single 7950 would be OK on the rudder with a short servo arm. Only downfall would be no back up if the servo should fail. The rudder on the Pitts is not that large. Plan on using the Valach 210 on the Pitts. Tony Clark has the Mk II version posted on their web site...

Trying to plan ahead for the servo and rudder arms. Going to use Hitec 7955 on everything except rudder. The control arms on the big Pitts are not much more than 1.25". So the question here - would 1" servo arms extend out enough to give moderate throw??? I've always been a believer in giving...

I'm still following Ace. Hope Jeff will send pictures and video for the maiden flight. Progress is very slow on my giant Pitts. Started laying out the parts on October 7. To date the tail sections are ready for sanding and half way through the second lower wing. Been a real head scratcher...

Robert, On the previous page, I noted you installed a wing bolt. (5mm ?) Glad you mentioned this before I finished sheeting the wing.

Time to start thinking about shaping and rounding the leading edges of the Big Pitts. Harbor Freight has a Mini Plane Set. Is there a better tool or way to knock down the balsa prior to final shaping ????? Jaketab http://www.harborfreight.com/3-piece-micro-brass-plane-set-97545.html

Cap strip & decking question. The wider 25mm strip (Querruderabdeckung) covers the upper and lower trailing edge spar on the aileron sections only???? It extends slightly beyond the trailing edge and slightly over the leading edge of the aileron ????? The 15mm cap strips are used everywhere...

Yes, to ply reinforce the back side is a give me. I had in mind to plane off most of the excess. Then bore a 1 - 1/16" hole in a hardwood block, cut the block in half, and line with sandpaper. The block would serve as a true uniform plane gauge. Your tip just saved me an hours time. On the...

Next step for me is the aileron. The task at hand is to profile shape the leading edge to a 1" diameter. Then to cut a slot for the hinge tab. I made a test mock up or the aileron leading edge to test the difficulty of cutting a slot for the hinge tab. Dremel tool works good on this. Question...

The struts on the big Pitts appear to be fiberglass/gel & carbon fiber lined with 1 carbon fiber reinforced spar running the length. No mounting attachments on the inside.

Good tip on the struts. The struts are hollow. It appears I'll have to block the upper and lower struts to have something to mount to. I don't recall anything on mounting the struts in any of the forums I have reviewed. Maybe I missed it.
