IMAC Dalton 260 Restoration

Not sure if I am up to another restoration project, but since this one is for a good friend and since I was prodded by @cbarnes0061, I guess I can give it a go.

This airframe was acquired along with my Yak that I purchased from a friend. He decided to keep the Dalton but was not sure what to do with it. He really wanted to go through it and I suggested I could give him a hand. Well, there ya have it. Dropped off yesterday and begun work on it today. She's in pretty rough shape and will take a lot to get her back to good condition. But I figured, I will give it a shot and see how it turns out. We (my friend and I) plan to give IMAC a try this year. Since another of our friends is coming back to the sport and is planning on competing for WOLRD's, now would be a good time to practice with him. Bruce will be flying the hopefully restored Dalton, I with my big Sukhoi.

I was able to get the airframe stripped of its components and most of the covering. The plane was equipped with a smoke system and it has really taken its toll. My first task is going to be getting what useable structure dryed up that I can. Cut out and replace the rest.

Here are some photos I took of the plane before starting on it to the point where most of the covering is off. Course, I have since cut the rudder hinges off as it will be completely restructured in the rear of the fuse.

Not a pretty site to start with. So Chris.... guess we'll find out just how talented I am huh? LOL. (Come on over pal. Got some cold beer for ya while you do this one for me. LOL) It is pretty obvious this poor ole girl was held together in some spots by nothing by covering.

Umm...you are supposed to put the plane IN the trailer. Not drag it to and from the field with a leash connected to the bumper. LOL. Good luck, I am sure she will be a beauty when you get done with her.

WOW she is pretty rough looking. I bet it was killer looking back in the day. How do you plan to dry out the wood?

Well, I have had good luck using Alcohol to clean and dry up oil before. Not so sure about this one. I am afraid some of the structure is just going to "HAVE" to come out and be rebuilt. I am open to suggestions anyone has drying up this girl.
