Date: Thursday, March 19 - Monday, March 23

Place: HighPoint Aviation Airfield
(3 miles south of Cumberland, MD atop Knobley Mountain in WV)

This is my home field, and we have pressed our luck for six years now weather wise. Five days were set aside for this event in hope of getting at least one really good day. So far, we have averaged at least three good days per event. Usually, at least one day has strong, in your face, wind and the slope guys are happy...aerotowing...not so much!

Jeremy Hartmann (aka Swiss1), owner of The Model Box hobby shop in Hoover, Alabama, arrived on Wednesday, March 18th with his friend Tom. Naturally, he planted the Swiss Flag!

Day 1 of the event, the last day of winter, was excellent! Moderate temperatures and light wind made for perfect Aerotow conditions.

Day 2, the first day of spring, we woke up to this!

The day was not wasted, the hotel conference room was turned into an aircraft workshop.

The group had a nice dinner together at a local restaurant.

Day 3, the decision was made to fly not matter what! Aerotowing from snow covered runway? Check!

Amazingly, by afternoon, the snow was completely gone and flying continued until dark!

Day 4, another nice day. A little breezy at times but very flyable. Tom got to tow with his Pawnee most of the day, so that hotel repair work paid off!

Day 5, we were down to the dedicated. The morning temperature was chilly so we lingered over breakfast.

By noon, the temperature was very pleasant with almost no air moving...time for the little stuff to come out and play!

For the sixth year, we pulled off an early event to start the season with four great days of flying out of five! Looks like we will try for the same time and place next spring.

You may have noticed the excavation work going on in the background. We broke ground for our new hanger facility several days before the start of the event. By the end of the event, the pad for the new building was completed.
