Well, I bit the bullet tonight and ordered all the wood needed to complete the repairs to the big Pilot 40% 129" Yak belly. After her sudden and most bogus fall from the sky due to a dead stick landing, the belly at the landing gear area was quite badly damaged. I had contemplated "not" repairing it and just simply replacing the airframe. But there are just too many new 'frames coming out soon that I want so, I will just rebuild the Yak, AGAIN.... Lol.

After the initial shock of my 210 dying and then the walk of shame, I was just so disappointed and discouraged. But this hobby will remind you very quickly "WHY" we do, what we do. If you're gonna play, you're gonna pay. And much like riding a wild bronc, If you get bucked off, you get right back on the horse. It is a love affair and a passion. Not to mention a drug that feeds off your soul and pocket book. But I have to say, it's worth it.

As you all will see, this re-build is going to be very time consuming but I think it will be worth it. I have seen much worse. I have repaired and rebuilt much worse. Others I have seen have not been as badly damaged and I have trashed them. But hey, this is a BIG OLE' YAK. I just gotta put her back in the air.

Posted here are the photos of the damage. I carefully pulled back the covering to expose the skeleton of the Yak so that I could ascertain the damage and order wood. This will probably take me as long to repair as it did to do the restore on it earlier this year. Stay with me everyone, hopefully it will be interesting and educational. Please by all means, if any of you have suggestions, advice or general input...please don't hesitate chiming in. I welcome all suggestions any of you may have.

    Here we go...again.

Ok let's all go for the ride.
First question, belive this is a Pilot plane. Are you getting all the wood parts from Pilot RC.
Second question, how and how determined what parts are required.
Third question, what part of the cost did you have to pay.
Fourth question, who do you get pilot RC to agree on all the wood required and that he will help you out.

Good luck on your rebuild. I got lucky and my dead stick only ripped out the gear and gear blocks. Could have been much worse.

Hey good morning. Yes, this is a genuine Pilot brand Yak. I am getting all wood for the repair from Tony at Pilot RC. Though I've lightly damaged a Pilot Edge once, this truly is the first time I have needed to call upon the luxury of taking advantage of the offering Pilot gives for free replacement wood. The replacement wood decision was made from indicated damage. I'll show in detail as I "slowly" work myself through this rebuild. The cost was determined on amount needed to repair. Since "all" wood for repairing a Pilot airframe is free to anyone who owns a Pilot RC brand plane, all you pay is shipping cost. So my cost for the ordered parts, (including a fresh new set of spats) was about 142 dollars. Considering a new fuse would cost me over 1100.00 with shipping, I feel this is a bargain. Including the updated carb base plate, reeds and new prop for the 210, all wood to repair this girl and any other insignificant things, I'm just guessing but that little stall before touch down due to a dead motor is going to cost me about 400.00 dollars. Not all that bad considering it could have been far worse.

Hat is a bargain to a big plane like that back in the air. Must say after spending some time looking at the pictures I would also have fixed the plane at that cost and the damage is not that bad.
It will be very interesting to see the wood you get from pilot RC. This makes me very interested in a pilot edge, looking for a new plane. That is a big benefit to receive the wood free to fix the plane.

Sorry. Lol. I'm just a Cap or an Edge fan and when it comes to a round cowl I choose a good ole Sukhoi.

Tony should be shipping my 107 Yak parts out hopefully within the next day or two.
