Jets Sniper EDF build

After watching all my buddies fly some sort of EDF jets and my dad really pushing me to try jets I took the plunge. My dad had an old EJF Sniper laying around. After doing some research they seam to fly good but the quality is terrible. The wings and stabs needed to be rebuilt. So I made up some templates and started cutting some cores. I can tell you that I much prefer to build a giant scale because on this little thing, everything is so damn tight! The wings are 3/4" thick. Trying to get retracts, wing tube and servos to fit presented some challenges.

Defender of the Noob!
motor/esc/battery ??

how fast?
after a little snooping, EJF is Electric Jet Factory, not in business anymore :(

looks fun, after stopping by Florida Jetweek for a day last week I'm tempted myself.

I have a jetfan 90 for it. I plan on running a 9s setup probably 4500mah packs. After doing some research I should be looking for a HET 700-68-1485. Good for 130mph straight and level.

A little progress has been made. My wings didn't fit the fuse as nice as I would have liked. But after checking the factory neither did theirs. I covered the center section of the wing with some ultracoat. Waxed it and brushed on some pva release. So I mixed up some West systems epoxy and some filler and made a fillet. Now there is a perfect fit between the wings and fuse. I also Drilled some 1/2" holes for mounting the wing. Once the dowels had dried I sanded them smooth and on the bottom side of the wing I recessed in some 1/16" plywood. This will help prevent the dowel from being pulled out. I will eventually glass the center section with 4 oz glass. Probably overkill but I don't want to loose or fold a wing. The last thing I like to do on all my builds is add a piece of 1/64 or 1/32 plywood on my trailing edges. The first time you hit it on the door, trailer, the steps you will thank yourself. 20160323_204145.jpg 20160323_204344.jpg 20160323_204411.jpg 20160323_205031.jpg 20160323_205846.jpg 20160323_204520.jpg

The wings are mounted so I'm turned my attention to the Stabs. Servos are mounted and main spar glued in.

I was able to get the stab mounted. I had to stiffen up the back end and luckily my dad had the dirty work done for me before he gave me the jet. He made up and glued in a 1/8" aircraft grade plywood former. He also laid in some carbon fiber on the inside of the fuse.

I had some issues with the stab. I was square to the wings but they weren't level and I had a full degree of negative incidence. I broke out the laser level and went to work. I kept on adding 4-40 washers until everything was where it needed to be. I followed the same protocol as the wing. I covered the stab with Ultracoat, waxed it and brushed on some pva molded release. Using West systems epoxy and some filler made a fillet to fill the gaps and have a perfect fit. I came back at it today and glued the vertical stab on using the laser. Everything is perfectly true and this one should fly straight.
