Went flying this weekend at the Abilene, TX IMAC contest. It was HOT!!! Don't know the actual numbers but, when the wind was blowing it felt like a blast furnace. The ZDZ-180 never missed a beat through all of it. Did some pm Saturday night and found that I had one header bolt almost complete out and the rest were loosened up pretty good. Tightened them down and was ready for Sundays Unknown round. Unfortunately, I was the only pilot able to compete in Intermediate due to @orthobird losing his plane to a tree before I got there on Friday. The club hosted a fantastic contest! I will definitely keep this one on my schedule even though it is a long haul. I have heard they are going to move the contest to a later date for next year, that will be a good thing :)

I plowed into some beans that were about 4 feet tall when my plane was about a foot off the ground yesterday and it sounded horrible, but luckily the damage wasn't that bad, I can only imagine the nasty sound it makes when you hit trees, Yikes!

It was a foolish mistake on my behalf. I have learned my lesson. DO not fly a 40% airplane, that you prize, at a new field, with out a spotter!
I flew over the tree, with full low power, and a small branch clipped one wing, had I powered up, it would have flown right thru it! Big mistake. The airplane came down at a 90 degree angle, from 20 feet or so. Fuselage split in half, and wings got some damage, but nothing happened to cowl, tail, rudder, elevators, canopy, etc... I just ordered a JTEC MX2, 35% airplane. I probably need to fly smaller airplanes, so if I do stupid things, the cost or, should i say, the loss, is not as much! LOL!! I am ok now! I am used to it! Part of the hobby!

Oh, Lord. He almost made it a whole year.

tell me about it! I wanted to cry! But, I did go back, after lunch, and try to get my nerves back, and decided to fly the 91" extra.
Got up in the air, flew her around, did the intermediate sequence three times, and I was thinking, man, this one is flying awesome! I will use this one for the contest, I says to myself.

Then, I decide to come in for the landing! I cleared the trees, big sigh of relief, as I regain my confidence!!

I am on the run way, and as the airplane is slowing down, it comes out of the edge of the concrete run way, and then on to the grass, but, the run way has a perpendicular concrete runway! My wheel catches the edge, and there it goes, rips out the main landing gear! At this point, I says to myself: "This is a sign from God!" He does not want me to fly at this contest!! SO I did not. I helped everyone, and that was it. I should have stayed at home!

Can you all believe, this was my 12 year anniversary weekend, and my wife knew I wanted to come, although, I did not plan to come. She told me Wednesday, Just GO, she says!! I really wished I had not gone!

other than damaging the main landing gear and the prop, no other damage! Even the wing tips were intact!!
