It's doesn't have* to be, there are quite a few reports of people satisfied with the way it runs out of the box. There's a pretty good thread on RCG you can read through and make your own call. If I ever get the engine I will probably try it stock and see how it is. Right now I'm spending too much on kids soccer..

Email that I just received from Saito Company

There’s no ‘problem’ with the FG-84R3. Ray English does offer some modifications to this engine and they do improve the mid-range transition, and reportedly increase peak rpm a small amount also. He also installs a crank pin bushing that is not present on FG-84R3s from the factory (now or ever).



The only change Saito has made to the FG-84R3 (and FG-33R3) is the addition of an anti-seize coating to the crank pin.



The FG-60R3 and FG-90R3 do incorporate a version of Ray’s modifications.



There are many FG-84R3s operating in the field unmodified. The key is using quality oil at the suggested ratios; absolutely no leaner than 20:1, preferably 16:1. Ray recommends using Morgan oil, Horizon has found this oil to be unsuitable for this use and does not recommend it. Red Line and Power Model 2T-S oil are two very good options.

With all that said Saito is now bring out a replacement motor for the FG84 called the FG90R3 this month HH will have in Dec or January

After a brief intermission, got some work done on the Corsair today. And you guys thought I was joking when I said this would be the longest build thread..

Installed the tail light and installed the wingtip lenses. The instructions have you glue them on but since they are clear I thought that would look messy and obviously not removeable if you need to swap out the LED for whatever reason. So I bought some small black sheet metal screws and used them to mount the lenses. Looks nice and clean and cool. LED's are pretty bright, have to see how they look in the daylight.

I ordered the Saito FG-90R3 today, I'm hoping it's shipping out of the CA warehouse so I'll have it by this weekend. I'm hoping the LHS has a suitable prop for break-in, I'll check tomorrow. I'll be running Red Line oil from the first start, 15:1 on the break in and then decide about moving to 20:1. Looking forward to getting this project completed, I'm down to a couple props and a tech-aero IBEC as far as parts go.

Tom what did you use for a fuel tank in your setup?
