Late to the party and no YS engines on my shelf :( . What the heck is going on around here!?.

I do still have a gallon of 30% that's never been opened. You never know. If that DZ200 drops its price one day I may just have to have it to have o_O.

I have some YS 60 short strokes that you can't have. Put some 30% in one of those and see something come alive. Incredible power.

Been doing some calc’s and looking at putting the 1” holes Mike suggested. To get the same result as what I had intended would require a few more than 150 1” holes. If I used 1/2” holes I would need to use more than 600! Haha. Great idea, but I am not gonna spend the time to plunge cut 1200 1/2” holes . Reinvestigating cutting the fuse sides down 1.5” versus the amount of wood and reinforcing required to make that happen weight wise. Also drew up a couple different renditions of firewalls to make sure there is plenty of fuse to tie to....

Now, if I had one of these....... :fist_pump: Would have been solved a long time ago!!

That would be nice to have one. I keep looking but the price is just to much.

Paul,

Are you adjusting the size of the plane at all for the engine? Based on weight? Wing loading? More than one thing?

I ask because @WMcNabb was nice enough to bestow upon me an Evolution 26cc gasser and I bought a tuned pipe for it with the plan being to scratch build a pattern airframe for it. Probably something loosely based on a Kaos 90 but I can't seem to settle on a size. 73" is about a 30cc plane for 3D but I'd rather go a little bigger even if it means the power isn't enough to do 3D.

Just wondering if there were any baseline rules of thumb that you applied or if you're building to the plans.

Thanks

(the engine didn't fit in the Cub Wade! not enough room for the muffler under the cowl without pushing it way forward)

Bart:

No change in size for the DA 35. Has a 77" wing span - shooting for 10# dry. For comparison, my piedmont 2m focus had a 74" ws and was 78" long with a YS 140 sport (23cc). Thought it was underpowered as it would slow down on uplines. The Focus weighed in at 10lbs-3oz dry.

What I am learning is the newer style 2m pattern planes continue to create more inherent drag requiring more hp (slower flights). This is in contrast to the old days of .60 size piped with retracts. The Focus had about a 4.75" fuse width. The Cadence is 6".

Not an expert in this, but hope the information helps give you some context.

The Super Kaos 60 was designed to have three standard servos side by side so it's about that wide. I was going to make the 90 size but more narrow and a little taller. Probably not much wider than the engine mounts and spinner.

Maybe I'll keep the fuselage the same length as the 90 but scale the wing area to keep wing loading about right for the heavier engine and bring the engine back a little for balance.

Sorry to hijack your thread but there aren't very many gasser pattern build threads out there! Long live GSN!!

No problem, and yes not many gasser pattern plane builds! So.... build thread here too? I would love it!
