@Snoopy1 been following your build. I think i am also going with the Xpwr 40cc motor on mine. I will be VERY interested to see what you think about it and how much power it gives for certain 3D type flying with it. What BEC did you go with to power your RX and Servos? and what size lipo did you use with it as well?

Thanks!

Cheers!

Did a lot research before I made my decision to go electric but I kept the door open to be able to back to a big DA engine.
The following equipment is installed into the plane. 40cc XPWR motor, falcon 20-10 E, 12s-4000 mPh this the new series of Graphene chemistry and ESC Phoenix Edge HV -120A .also running two 1800mAh rx battery packs. Weight came in ready on the runway 20 lbs 10oz.
Unfortunately it has not flown just had another 2 inches of snow today the weather has just been horrid, just have to be patient to get it flying. This is my first big electric plane and I have some concerns on how to charge the batteries at the field. That is another discussion.

Ahh, ok. Gotcha! thanks for the info. So since you have both planes, which would you say is your favorite of the two to fly?

Every plane in my hanger has a purpose ;) and each do their own escapades. I love flying the TBM on floats, slightly underpowered with the fiberglass floats for hanging on the prop. But it's quiet on floats with the electric motor and doesn't bother people which is super nice. On gear... the gear is super stiff, no articulation or give - almost like it's made for a 30cc plane - the tail wheel is no exception. I flew it once on skis, and liked it - but the skis need more work and the snow wasn't really that good. The TBM does pop tops, blenders, and has some wicked elevator authority. It's built well. Wings are top notch, empenage could use a little reinforcement on the elevator and lower stab fin support is lacking. It's a fun plane to fly and I love the size range. I hear they are coming out with a 20cc version (same as the 84" just reinforced for gasoline). If I could make this plane with a different undercarriage that would open up some bush flying territory.

The 110" Timber is a solid flyer. If you keep it light and electric there is no comparison right now. It's simply not built right for a 50cc engine (light ply, lack of cross bracing, and triangle supports). I'd love the GP38 on this plane to help lighten it up.... 50cc it'll punch out of a hover, and do wicked short take offs. The DLE55RA has been a GREAT engine for me so far, no issues, starts and runs like a champ, only gas engine that hasn't dead sticked on me yet. The articulating gear is HEAVY, the BushTires HEAVY, the wings HEAVY and actually have a bit of flex to them when twisting that makes me wonder, 55cc up front... HEAVY. . . yet it has the wing area to make it all fly. As you have probably read in my posts that I've reinforced quite a bit, and even a repair here and there. I'm treating this like a bush plane, so it's going to get battle scars, with that said there has been quite a few issues with the lack of glue and craftmanship on the Timber that are disappointing. Blind Nuts failing all over the place in other folks and myself. Struts are not only HEAVY as well, but one blind nut in the wing has failed for me - I've been flying without the struts but no hard 3D. This plane is a blast to fly, I always worry about the structural integrity with all the heavy items onboard and have settled with treating it as a bush plane and not a 3D machine because of this. I have plopped this plane down pretty hard and it keeps on goin... that has to say something.

If either plane bit the dust, I'd probably buy another. :D

2" of #!@% - I thought we are not allowed to say that four letter word anymore! :LOL_gif: Dang, it was 70F here and the snow is only on the mountains still. Summer is a comin @Snoopy1 dont you worry!

Sorry forgot to mention power from the motor and amp readings. I own a couple of big motors but this little 40cc electric motor made me set back. When it was all installed the motor was tested well let me tell you it made take a step back when I slammed the throttle wide open it is impressive, and it spiked up to 101 amps on the table.

The weather has been crazy did some nice flying in April rolled and cut the grass and getting ready for the season then May showed up it has been below freezing many times and snow on off during the month, just cannot believe the weather.

Just a question your Timber with all the changes you made what is the weight of the plane.

Thought I was close to 22#
Maybe the thawing and freezing will kill off some skeeters. LOL

Perfect! that is exactly the kind of info I was looking for! I LOVE my TBM and wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake on time and money to build this Timber if I wasn't going to be impressed or enjoy it less than my TBM. I am with you on all of the things about the TBM. I have put softer larger tires on it, (since I DO fly from unimproved rough grass strip, STOL style) and that seemed to help with me feeling like I was tearing it up on landings, but the wheels are heavier and like you said, it is already underpowered! If I could come up with some articulated gear that weren't bricks it would be sweet! Looking forward to the more rugged, scale-like usage for STOL/bush flying with the Timber and just seeing how it handles in comparison to my beloved TBM. Thanks again for your reply, it put my mind at ease on the big purchase.

Cheers!

@AKNick. I was just thinking about the power on the Timber if my 40 cc electric motor turns out to be a pain or the short flight times get to me the GP 38 looks like the way to go. Be interesting set with the Timber. Will have to keep an eye out to see if anyone is going to try the GP 38.
