Discussion Connectors; ESC to Battery. What Are You Using And Why?

Reviving an OLD Thread.

There are a lot of Anti-Spark plugs out these days and not a whole lot of explanation of how they work. I have made a JST connector with a resistor to it, I'd plug the JST connector and then the battery connector, then unplug the JST circuit (didn't really have to it just made me feel better). BUT with the new connectors available I don't have to make these hokey connectors.

AMASS XT90-S connectors have been my go to these days for my 6S batteries and 12S setups. The way they war are similar to how my old method but the resistor is integrated into the connector housing. The XT90-S uses a 5.6 Ohm 1 Watt Resistor on the positive receptacle on the battery side.... jerks designed this so you have to pay extra verses putting it on the ESC only.

How it works? The resistor circuit makes first contact/connection when inserting the connector, and when fully inserted it bypasses this circuit by providing an interrupted connection separate of the resistor - electricity then knows where to go for the path of least resistance.

I'll add some pictures with some exploratory surgery too:

All my Rx batteries are Deans Ultra. Thats what I have, thats what I use. I have EC2s on a Blade 180 heli. Good mini plug! I have used the EC5s on larger 700 helis, and in my 90mm EDF. They are fine for that. I also have a set of PRC6s on a 12S 5K pack for another 700 size heli I have.

They all unplug hard. If you have something that unplugs easy, you are not making a good solid connection, and just heating up the plug for no apparent reason.

I have run into some poor Deans/T-Connectors before. If the flat to flat connection is off just a tiny bit, you are not getting a very good connection (look at the used connectors and you see uneven wear)I use to be all about the Deans connectors, I'm converting to XT60's instead for this reason unless it's a 6S then it gets the XT90S. The connectors are much like that of the Castle Creations bullet connectors and are very solid.

You have to be careful with the EC5 as there are many knock offs and styles that are the old vintage bullet connectors that are very poor for high amperage (little fanned out spindle that moves freely on the male connector). Much like the XT's and PRC6's and CC male connectors, there are little slits/cuts instead which provides great conductivity in comparison. Any of them work well IMO

If the Deans starts to feel loose, 99% of the time, its the male plug. Replace it. :)

All my EC5s and 2s have always been genuine, as are my Deans.
