The wet sanding is done and it looks pretty good not what would like it to, be but white that I had was a perfect match and do not have any more so it will have to do. Hopefully it works out. If I had more of the white it would be sprayed aging.
Now just have to let it dry for 24 hours. So masking will start tomorrow and hopefully the Orange and blue can be sprayed on by Monday.

Tuff day in the paint shop. It did not go well. The blue on the bottom went ok just a little spitting but that will be sanded out and it is on the bottom, and colour match is good..
now the top Orange, did not work out the first can would not spray no matter what I did it would just spit paint. So on to the second can got it working and looked ok, after 30 seconds the orange went very dark almost brown. Stopped sanded the cowl down and started over. Third can colour looked good but just could not get decent spray. Cut the can open put it into a spray gun and tried again. Looked ok finished the spraying. Cleaned up and went home.
This is what I finished up with the blue looks good on the plane but the Orange not so much. Just not a happy camper not what I am going to do just leave it and carry on or start over the only thing is do not have anymore orange paint and do not how to get a good colour match. I may end up with what I have now.?????.
This cowl is going to bug me every time I look at it.

Oh man. On another note, good job with the painting. But hmmm on that color mismatch. Seeing how little orange in on the top, could you just cover it with covering? Orange is hard to match

It’s a thought, never covered a painted surface with covering. I am sure it will stick but air bubbles could be a problem not sure I do know it’s difficult to cover Ultracote with Ultracote. Have to ponder on this one.

Spent another day on the cowl . Spent the morning wet sanding all the way down to 600 every nook and cranny. Then put two coats of clear coat on the cowl. All I can say is after all the difficulties and colour matching problems the cowl looks absolutely perfect except for the colour orange. The cowl looks like glass. Take some pictures tomorrow. Ok leaving the cowl the way it is. Fly the plane this coming season and see if it annoys me enough during the summer, if it does I will sand it down again and try to match the orange better. But need to be sure that I have a better match to the orange first.

This is what the cowl ended up looking like. Sorry to say the picture doesn’t do the pint job any justice.
Now all that needs to be done is to run the engine on the test stand for about 10 minutes at most. Then assembly everything setup the radio and wait for spring. The radio set is going to new for me , will setting up a JR -DMSS system in ppm mode should be interesting again.

Just wondering how many of you gentlemen have the JR-DMSS system and have set up radios for an aeroplane.

Once the paint is fully cured I will have to do a full assembly. Still cannot do it right now because I am waiting for some batteries from China which I have no idea when they are going to show up. Been waiting for four weeks now.

Which size prop do you plan on using? I’m flying a 27x10 currently, and wondering if 28x12 would be too much for the DA100.
