Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

TonyHallo

I got the 3/4" tube from Dragon Plate https://dragonplate.com/Roll-Wrapped-Twill-Finish-Round-Tubes. I plan to make my own tubes out of fiberglass. Clearwater Composites has a large selection as well.
I look around quite a bit online. Somewhere I read that the CF tubes are one and half times as strong of aluminum so I just assumed the yield point of aluminum as the limit. I modeled the tube as a cantilevered beam assuming a 6g load and assumed the worse case as point loaded at the end.

Thanks for the info

While the glue is drying I worked on the nosewheel yoke. Decided to make a new yoke rather than scab pieces on the side. Need to grind the old yoke off and make a jig to hold while welding. Started to pre-bend the balsa sheeting

The 1/8" X 3" x 36" sheeting for this plane came from a Hostetler 30% Decathlon kit that I picked up for $100. This sheeting was put with the sheeting from a 30% Hostetler Chipmunk kit, each sheet was weighted, the weights ranged between 20 grams and 65 grams. I think there will be more than enough sheets weighting less than 30 grams each. Half of the pile was 30 or below, there are many of sheeting weighting over 60 grams.

Too much!!! The welding is completed.

The 1" wing tube arrived today so I made a wing tube for it. Light coat of Vasoline, two wraps of wax paper, two wraps of saturated glass cloth. Should have a finished tube in the morning.

Sheeted the bottom back of the fuselage. I want to install the wing tube before completing the bottom sheeting. Considering power for this bird, thinking Roto 85 FS might work, need to thing about how to cool, there no place for air to exit.

The sleeve slide right off the tube this morning, clean the wax paper and Vasoline out and it is ready to install. I used the full 72" long tube to triangulate the sleeve in the fuselage and set it level with a precision protractor. The sleeve is epoxied in and curing. Expecting the 3/4" stab tube to arrive today.
