Saying goodbye to AMA?

We had Marke Gibson from the FAA at our field just south of DC... The only one in the area still open... We also had bob brown on hand. YOU STILL MUST REGISTER. That is word for word what he said. No one is exempt. Marke had never been to an rc field so my question is why was he qualified to be in charge of the whole uas issue with the FAA?? He got to fly a model airplane for the first time though. He was on a buddy box. He was also informed the entire flight was over 400'... I think it was an eye opener for him..

People have to keep in mind that model airplanes are a very small part of what the FAA is doing with respect to integrating sUAS into the NAS. Make no mistake, I think this guy is woefully misinformed about models and a politician at heart. Just look at his completely evasive answer to my question about the 400-foot situation caused by their poorly worded registration page. Evasive as the most seasoned politician!!

At least now he has some clue what is going on. He was at the AMA Expo last weekend and I think his eyes are getting opened, if slowly. But the main thing to keep in mind is we are a tiny dot on a very big radar screen for the FAA. Gibson's appointment only proves and perpetuates how badly the FAA is stuck in the manned aircraft paradigm. Everything they do is filtered thought the lens of manned aviation, and they just cannot understand sUAS, let alone models.

I would like to say he even learned one thing from the event but he was more interested in telling stories of flying the F-16... Which is cool but doesn't matter to me one bit..

As for us 14 clubs in the sfra.. I am not holding my breathe to them being open anytime soon and he even said that not all will even open ever...
There should be something in writing soon about the 400' joke...
I flew the 2016 advanced iMac sequence for him and he was impressed that the airplanes hold together for a 1 1/2 snap at the fastest point of a loop from the top...

It's almost like deja vu all over again!! This is not the first time, not I fear the last time, that the AMA has set up demonstrations for FAA people involved in the sUAS Rulemaking efforts. The revolving door at the FAA makes it hard to keep informed people in a position for any useful amount of time. Once they figure us out, they quit, retire, or get transferred. Then it is back to Square One.
