They had already secured an agreement on that before they first posted about it. I heard about it unofficially before even the Expo. Each update since only reinforces that this is going to happen. Things at the FAA generally move slowly, so this is actually pretty quickly.

That was not the question I was responding to. There has only been one person that the AMA tried to expel, but ended up doing a short suspension on. It was a few years back, he was flying FPV at high altitude around the traffic pattern for the Las Vegas airport. Early bad press for our hobby.

So far they have not done that. But I am not one who feels the AMA is lying or otherwise misrepresenting the situation. What possible reason would there be to do that??
Thanks Judge that's what I was looking for, someone that ama had tried to expel or deny membership, wonder why they didn't kick him out all together?

I don't think ama is lying. I just think ama leadership is a joke.
Chickenballs, I read that on the ama website but as far as that being said, they said they were going to ask for that when they meet with the FAA. Funny how they make that statement before they know it will be approved.
Yeah I've actually tried to go back and let others that I've told they could use there ama# instead of FAA# on plane, that it may not be so, this is what ama is saying not FAA, at least yet. I guess it's kinda like ama saying they would have the DC area fields back open, by mid Jan., but actually looks more like April to mid July, if they reopen at all.

you DO realize that there are a lot of vacation time around the holidays.... actually congress was on holiday break from Dec 21 till Jan 5 or 6.... and I am sure when they get back they have more pressing things to worry about than a few thousand people flying their toy airplanes.

Based on this speech on the Senate floor yesterday, I'm wondering if things will get worse:

http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4576550/senator-nelsons-speech-drones

Things get interesting after 4:00 mark....

Some interesting quotes:
embedded software prohibiting near airport, above "a certain altitude"
If people break limits how to identify? Registration/licenses
Commercial users are great. Hobbyist/kid "probability of accident waiting to happen"
Next two months we will have to come up with answers.

So basically the ranking member of a committee that will write the next FAA reauthorization bill (because the old one expires in a couple of months, you know the one that has the supposed exemption for model aircraft flown for fun) has no idea what has already happened.

I went ahead and signed up today as I feel I will need it for work related events and whatnot, despite me saying I will not do it. If I were not working in the industry, I'd probably never bother.

They must be more than just toys if the government is worried enough to register who owns them.

You don't register boats cars atvs snowmobiles with the federal govt. You do it at the local or state level.

Not exactly the same thing.
Who do you register your aircraft with?... full scale?...... I know a LOT of people that fly FS for fun....it is ALL the same...if the feds want to find out who owns my state registered snowmobile or boat or jetski.... that info is instantly available..... again...just sayin
