    Scale Byron Glasair Build

My flying buddy Tony had one back in the 80's and it flew very well. Kinda slow, but flew well.

I've been considering a similar set up to what your using to hold your fuselage for priming. Normally I just stand then on the firewall on a can, but the Ultimate I'm working on is much longer than the 60cc airplanes I'm used to painting. I may use an engine stand if I can remember where mine...

You get extra points for the Vega with a roll cage in the background.;) Even more points if it's an Astre! I've been trying really hard to talk myself out of buying a Byron P-51 that's for sale in our club. I need it like a hole in the head. But at the same time I really want it.:lol2:

I'm sure there is a video somewhere , but basically your in a high alfa knife edge up high and let the airplane drop somewhat fast while maintaining your knife edge, then as it get close to the ground you throttle up and fly knife edge across the field.

I think the knife edge loop is one of the scariest things to do with a bigger airplane. There is always that thought in the back of your mind, is it really going to come around at the bottom? I always liked the death slide too!

Krill 39% Ultimate 300KS Assembly And Paint

I have powdered guide coat that I use at work, which would work well for that, but since I've been a bodyman for 42 years I see pretty well with my hands.;) 42 years........ sounds like a prison sentence.:face-palm:

My 30+ pound 35% 300X will do a knife edge loop no problem with one Hitec 7950 that has 486 oz at 7.2 volts. I have done many of them.

The vertical stab had some shipping damage that needed repair. This catches the thread up to where I am now.

Here are some more pics. The first one shows the vent holes from the inside and the rudder servo tray mount. The rest show the beginning of the seam removal for painting. I started by blocking the seams with 220 and then going over that with 320. I did some filling with Dolphin Glaze on the cowl...

I cut some cooling vents into the bottom of the fuselage for the canisters.

This airplane uses carbon fiber landing gear with fiberglass covers. I had to spend quite a bit of time to get the covers to fit up to the fuselage, but it worked out fairly well. I'm not looking forward to mounting these after it's painted since they get glued to the legs and it's pretty much...

Here are more pictures. The spark plug leads were just long enough to exit through the sides of the dome and reach without being stretched like guitar strings. The pic also shows the batteries mounted on the tray. Access is fairly good through the top holes. I had made a rudder tray...

Not too bad. The last few months have been filled with potholes, but things seem to be a bit smoother now. :)

Here are some pics of the fuel tank tray. It's a part that came with the airplane. The tank is a PAU Pro tank..... VERY nice! I have since moved the receiver from where it's mounted in these pics. After testing the tray in the plane I decided the receiver was way to hard to get to in that location.

Next I made a battery tray out of the Krill silver fiberglass/plywood board and added the throttle servo mount to the bottom of it. The servo mount is something I cobbled together from spare parts. The shape of the tray really shows the offset in the dome for engine thrust.

Okay, I'm going to post some pictures to catch up to where I am now. The Canister mount is finished, reinforced, and glued together with Hysol. I cut holes in the top of the engine dome to access the batteries and ignition. The ignition is mounted to a piece of plywood and bolted in between...

I’m going out flying thread 2019

A friend of mine made a rc glider out of a cheap hand thrown Walmart non rc foamie. On the test flight they towed it with a foamie cub and right before release the battery pack came untaped from the glider and became a dangler. It was an exciting few seconds of loops and rolls from both planes...

Most basecoats will have little to no shine unless cleared, and they also depend on the clear for UV protection. Generally you can clear it with any clear, but I would make a test panel just to be sure. Any 2 part automotive clear would be fine. The 2 part catalyzed spray can clear works good too.
