    Yippee! What the postman brought

I needed more 1mm thick carbon fiber sheet to use as the base for the aileron servo mounts in the Ultimate. I only had enough on hand for 2 of the 4.

We have a Frozen Finger Flyin on New Years Day. I don't attend because I'm a big sissy, and proud of it.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I installed my J&J tailwheel on my Hangar 9 Extra 300X yesterday. I'll probably change the springs sooner or later. The ones that were on it were too short, and these were all I had laying around. One of the reasons I wanted to change the tailwheel is the tail seemed really bouncy when taxiing...

All the sharp corners on the White Rose tail wheel I'm putting on the Ultimate were driving me crazy so I took it apart and let it talk to my disc sander and some files for a bit. I know I'm a sick sick man.:oblong:

That is Loctite Hysol 9462. It's awesome for gluing things to composites.

    Yippee! What the postman brought

I had to shovel a path to my mail box to get it, but my new J&J tailwheel for my Hangar 9 Extra showed up yesterday.:) Just for the heck of it I weighed it and the White Rose tailwheel for the Ultimate, and they are nearly identical. The J&J was a couple of grams heavier.

The ones I'm installing are 400 ounce. There is nothing to mount the cover to, plus no instructions. I figure they're using two sided tape.

We had about the same here. I even had to shovel some, yuk!

Just for your enjoyment, here are the Krill instructions/pictures for installing the aileron servos. Yes, that's two sided tape, and the servo shaped part is hard foam.o_O

The wing is thinner than the stab and elevators which sure makes it a challenge to say the least.;)

I'm going to use some Bob Violett aileron servo mounts. They have carbon fiber L brackets that screw to maple blocks. The hard part is the servo wires. There needs to be a notch in the block for the wiring, which doesn't leave you a lot of room for one of the screws. You also need enough room to...

A bunch of that nasty white flaky stuff showed up last night. Way too much for this early in the season.

All of that is yet to be determined. I have a plan, but I still need to figure out a few things.

Not a lot got done in the last couple of days. A lot of staring and planning and figuring on the aileron servo mounts. I did get the control horns glued in the top wing.

The I'm NOT going out flying thread.

We had snow here in Southern Illinois yesterday and last night. Just a dusting. Not super unusual, we get snow in November now and then, and in April as well. Of course I've also flown in sweatshirt weather in January, so you just never know. As they like to say, "If you don't like the weather...
