Sport The Kool Kanary (Giant Hot Kanary)

I used a razor saw to cut through the ribs, and just a #11 knife blade with a straight edge to cut through the sheeting. There will be a 1/8" sheet balsa shear web/aileron cove glued to the rear spar. As for hinges, I haven't fully decided which method I'm going to use. If I use the top hinge...

Pecking away at the bottom wing. With the spar location change, I'm also changing from strip ailerons to built up ailerons. First thing to do is glue the aileron but ribs in place on the sheeting. Putting the sheeting on the bottom of the wing. After that I finished up the center...

Sport The Kool Kanary (Giant Hot Kanary)

The bottom wing has been progressing slowly the last few days (I've been dealing with a pulled muscle in my shoulder). One of the changes I made is the rear spar, the plans called for a single larger top spar with no bottom and had it moved further aft. I changed it so both top and bottom...

Cool Tucson Aerobatic Shootout Event Coverage

Awesome! Looks like it going to be great coverage :)

The tail is fit, and I made the dorsal fin. That pretty much finishes all I can do with the fuselage for now. Tomorrow I'm going start the wings.

This afternoon I made the servo rails as well as the pushrod supports. With the pushrod supports, and outer casing in it was time to sheet the bottom of the aft fuse.

The fuse is boxed up and tonight I sheeted the top rear deck, put the cockpit floor in, and the top forward deck block on I then glued in the main firewall (F1) Am and then carved the top deck block to shape. Once that was all finished I fit the cowling, which took a little tweaking to F1, but...

I sheeted the sides after dinner, which took all of 20 minutes, straightened up the shop a bit and started boxing in the fuse.

1/4" sheet insets are in, and I'm ready to sheet the sides after dinner. Very possibly be boxing the fuse in tonight :) From here until the sides are sheeted, I will keep the fuselage sides top to top... I will not build two lefts, I will not build two lefts, I WILL NOT BUILD TWO LEFTS :)...

I did think about using 1/16" or possibly 3/32" instead of the 1/8" but I worried about it being a little punky. The empennage is sheeted in 1/16" and it's right on the verge, if the distances between the trusses were any bigger I don't think I would have been happy with it.

With the empennage finished, this evening I started framing the fuselage truss. Here is where there will be some deviation from the plan to save some weight. Up until this point, I've pretty much followed the plan, but there will be quite a few changes from here out. The bottom of the...

The stab is done. The elevators are finished all but putting in a hard point for a control horn, and I'm holding off on that because I might use a hidden horn with an access hatch (just like the Krier Kraft).

With all of the cutting finished this afternoon, it was on to the fins nd rudder this evening. The fin is framed up as a 1/4" x 1/2" balsa truss. Once I was done framing it, it got blocked out flush. I edge glued 1/16" sheets together, bock sanded them flat and then sheeted both side...

All of the cutting is done, there is literally not much to this airplane lol

I like to have things that not a lot of other people have. That way I know when I show up to a fly in I have the only one there :)

Yep! :) This thing has quite a bit of carving to do. The wing tips, head rest and the toward fuse deck (front of the top wing to the firewall) are all carved blocks.

And we're off!! I started and finished cutting the wing ribs this afternoon. Tomorrow I'm going to get the fuse and stab parts cut, then I can break out the glue. Big box of wood :D Laying out the ribs, couldn't just make square blanks as the aspect ratio of the airfoil is too tall...

Glad to have all you guys following along again! :D I'm just about done with the shop, so I'll probably start cutting ribs and formers tomorrow evening.

Scale 25% Krier Kraft build, a tribute to grampa.

Not a lot, life and weather got in the way a bit. The plans are ready to go to the local print shop and get scanned. I'll get that done in a few days when I get a few extra bucks lol. After a lot of thought and back and forth about charging for them I've decided to just scan them to a PDF...

Those that followed my Krier build will probably notice the shop is a bit different. Over the last couple of weeks I tore my shop apart and repainted the floors, walls, and work benches. I also built a new bench that is only 20 inches wide and did away with the old 3 foot wide bench against...
