Looks great. Like how you did the rudder and I will say it will hell big time. The way I did it on the last plane this size is the rudder and vertical where built out of 3/8” stock so it’s all thinner than the fuse to begin with.

That’s gonna open up a lot of space in the engine bay not needing the shock towers anymore. Looks awesome and keep it up.

Snoopy basically when you cut the le portion of the elevator don’t cut the notch in it for the hardwood joiner. Instead what I have done before is build it all then setup a 1/8” router bit in my dremel with the router attachment and rout a channel about 8” long. Then just glue in a piece of 1/8”...

That can be done just makes covering more of a PITA

Did you just bend the LE stick to match the angle on the center support? If so I like it and will try that on my next build. I have always just cut and glued two separate sticks. Helpful hint for when you build the elevator. Have the tristock on hand you plan to use in the hinge line area. Use...

So you guys check out this handmade joiners bow saw a buddy made and gave me this evening with both a Japanese and western style blade for it. It's all made out of hard maple except for the tension block that is just southern yellow pine.

Looks great. Don't forget the lightening hole in the block at the tail. Every bit of weight removed back there helps. Man I have to say the laminated top piece looks amazing.

Looks kinda like the Dagu Red a club member gave me this past summer. Need to get it flying at some point.

3542 outrunner with a 2200mah lipo. KV of the motor is dependent on wether you want to run 3S or 4S lipos. I had a motor originally listed at 900kv which should have given me decent performance on a 12x6 prop running 3S. Ended up having to run a 13x6.5 to get ok vertical. Switched out to a 4s on...

That’s one way to do it. Should actually be stronger that way once glued up just takes a little longer to do. Nice job.

Yes the 44" was my favorite of all of them I think just because it was easy to fly in my yard and would wad up in a ball when you stuffed the sticks in the corner. I can send you the plans for it as well if you want to build it at some point. In that video the plane was still nose heavy as well...

To finish answering the question though I do not think building without the counterbalances will hurt its performance. In every one of them I have built and flown in high rates I end up not having set to full deflection as if I do it ends up more like and airbrake.

Assist the servo is not really something I thought about on these and honestly with the servos we are using now I don't think its helping that much. More then anything I think its to add a little more authority to the control surface as well as aesthetics (they just look cool). On this 20cc...

Yes he is a very good designer and builder. If you look at his profile picture that green triplane is a full scale plane he designed, built, and flew.

Hopefully the link post here since its from another forum site but if you scroll through the first three pages you can see Triflyer3D's build of one of his designs. I got a lot of the same build style from this thread and at one time having one of those planes other than I'm using a wing tube...

He did not end up adding any weight. Honestly I question if the CG actually was right on his and he just wasn't expecting the plane to be as loose as it was. I would say for sure move rudder and elevator servos forward some to help. For me and I would be going with carbon fiber tubes as pushrods...
