    Yippee! What the postman brought

Just a few arrivals from the Postman lately. A little "STANG" glue and a replacement hobby saw. I have just about wore the previous one out after the last two years. So 8 or so bucks later and I got a new one to beat up on. LOL.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Had an ooops last night. Working on the Big Mustang, I needed to clean my CA bottle tips. Word of caution fellas...don't use a paper towel with your "thin" CA then accidently squeeze the bottle as your cleaning your tip. Yeah, "INSTANT" glued together thumb and finger. Took me an hour to...

I’m going out flying thread 2019

Snoops....there is no help for us. LOL. I snapped a few photos from today's outing. We all had a pretty good time. The weather was....well, it is January. Can we expect anything other than what we had here in the Northwest? A bit chilly but the sun was shinning for a little while. It did start...

I’m going out flying thread 2019

Not sure I could agree completely. Unless.... David flapped his arms hard enough to actually become airborne. Then yes, I would say it counts. :yesss: I tried that once. Just could not get enough lift. But then, when did you ever see a lead weight fly? :lol2:

I’m going out flying thread 2019

Dang it, you beat me to it. I was all prepared to start a new thread but you already have it going. Good for you. I have not been out yet, but I'm on the way out now. 9:30 in the morning, no wind, no rain, and the temperature is bearable. So fly fly fly fly, I must go fly. And by the way, yes...

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

You gents are awesome. I appreciate all the input. I think when I actually get to the glassing, I'll have more of an idea of how I will proceed. David, I appreciate the offer on the spray gun. However it just so happens that my son just bought a complete setup and we're going to try it out on a...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Really sorry for that brother. But you know? If you had "bumped" the rudder at 1:25, that (crash) would have never happened. Now you all know why I bump a rudder now and then. It is like a little "Voodoo" that I give my planes. If they get some..."bump"...they don't have the desire to...

Probably get that from like Wally-World or Home Depot Kelly? How light is it?

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

Thanks for all that Snoops... Your process is "very" similar to most all the videos and information I have obtained. I like the hairspray method. My son used it before he did the complete recover of his 43% pee u...ah I mean PAU Edge. :laughing:It turned out absolutely flawlessly beautiful. That...

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

Thanks David.... I appreciate all the input. I had not decided yet on whether to use poly or epoxy. Most of the videos and information I have been hearing about and watching have been dealing with epoxy resin finishes. It just looks so d'earned easy that even an Idaho Potato could do...

You think you have been thinking about it? Ha...you should try it from my shoes. I can hardly wait to see this thing in the air. To hear the "ROAR" of that Mighty Kolm wailing across the sky. Ask and you shall receive my friend.

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

Didn't really do much today fellas. Just a little sheeting of the fuse. Researched some information and scouted around for a really-"REALLY" nicely designed lighting system. My awesome son stopped by today to take a look at the Stang. Being an ex USAF Structural Engineer, he pointed out a thing...

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

Thanks for the input fellas. I am very appreciative you took the time to give me some advice. I have not used a laser for an airframe before. I will probably set the fuse perfectly straight then use the laser for the tail surfaces only. I am going to be very cautious with this step.

Photos from Dec. 26 and 27. This tail gear structure was not really difficult. Just took a little time to figure out how to approach it. I knew I needed solid support for the Sierra gear. I knew also I needed that structure to be light. I just do not want any tail weight on this bird. So this is...

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

Next set of photos...These span from Dec. 22 thru to Dec. 25. Supporting the middle of the formers while I add the carbon rods on the opposite side of the fuse. Once the carbon rods were in place, I could continue building the other side of the engine box. And start adding some sheeting…...

It's not enough to realize you bit off more than you first imagined. More accurately put, is it enough to be able to admit it? LOL... Between the Velox, the Mustang and Christmas... I have been quite consumed. Nevertheless, I have made some progress in all departments. With Christmas '18 over...
