IMAC First Carden 124" Extra 300 Pro Build

Hi Cam (@orthobird) Thanks for the information - the more advice the better! I should clarify my plan as I don't intend to actually complete wings/stabs before I build the fuselage: My plan is to prepare (servo boxes, carbon tow, socket supports etc.) and dry fit but NOT glue in the carbon...

IMAC First Carden 124" Extra 300 Pro Build

I am vacuum bagging, but was planning to edge glue too. @Terryscustom what're your thoughts on this as in your video (which is essentially my "manual"!) shows tape on the sheeting but I can't tell if is edge glued at 09:53?

IMAC First Carden 124" Extra 300 Pro Build

Titebond II arrived, so I taped up the skin for the horizontal stabs. Using a small injector bottle I glued a single edge just to get a feel for what was involved - so, thin bead of glue, closed the joint, wiped the glue away with a putty knife and then sanded over the joint to try and get balsa...

IMAC First Carden 124" Extra 300 Pro Build

Thinking ahead a little bit, I'm going to have to make some servo boxes to glue in before I can skin the wings. I have settled on something like the one shown below which is a picture I found elsewhere on the Internet. I've never had to make a giant scale servo box before so a couple of...

IMAC First Carden 124" Extra 300 Pro Build

I had originally planned to start with the motor box, but now decided to start with the stabs then wings followed by fuselage. Began by weighing all the sheeting supplied with the kit and grouping it for the various foam parts. Just waiting for the postman to bring a bottle of Titebond II and...

3D Demystifying Vacuum Bagging of foam wings!!

@Terryscustom many thanks for a great thread. I'm just putting together my vacuum setup ready to bag the wings of my new Carden PRO (results, however they turn out will be found in this thread). Apologies if I missed it in the thread but what is your view on the West 205 (fast) hardener vs West...

IMAC First Carden 124" Extra 300 Pro Build

I must admit, I am tempted by the DA150L - I'm going to do some more research. If I do go DA150L I may consider MTW RE3 pipes as my understanding is that they work well on the DA150 even though they don't on the DA170.

IMAC First Carden 124" Extra 300 Pro Build

My Carden 124" Extra 300 Pro kit arrived yesterday. I've got a reasonable amount of building experience, but this will be my first time building a giant scale model. I'm not in a rush as I have a good IMAC frame already so I'll be taking my time in the hope of getting things right. Thanks...

    Tapatalk

@Bartman - Tapatalk seems to have stopped working since the site upgrade. Says that GSN has been "deregistered" from them. Any chance we could get Tapatalk support back as it's invaluable for reading GSN on the go. Cheers.

IMAC Double Build, Carden Pro 124" Extra 300 40%

Hi @orthobird do you have the dimensions of one of the Carden PRO wings inside its shuck - w x d x h please? Just trying to work out what size vacuum bag I will need to order bag a wing. Assembling my vacuum gear but kit still in transit! Cheers.

    DA170 Pipe Recommendations

A man after my own heart - logging every flight :) Thank you. That is a pretty good number of flights, seems to work out at the pair of pipes costing about $1-$1.50 / flight ... I'd prefer they didn't break... but for the additional power they sound like a good option. In your opinion, is it the...

    DA170 Pipe Recommendations

@Silver Fox Wayne, many thanks for this - it is very useful. Do you know how many flights / hours of use you got before the KS1090 broke down?

    DA170 Pipe Recommendations

Thanks @jamesrxx951, it's expensive to get the Planebender pipes to UK unfortunately otherwise I'd give them a try as have heard great things.
