IMAC JTEC Radiowave 3.1m MX2 Build

So we still need to sheet the stabs. I put all the sheeting together today, Kevin set up the false ribs in the stabs, cut the servo lead run in the foam and put the servo boxes in. Pictures tomorrow and then into the vacuum bag.

IMAC JTEC Radiowave 3.1m MX2 Build

IMAC Carden Pro 124 Build, My Dream Plane

Primo, I thought about epoxy to glue the tow down but I wanted to get the full penetration of the gorilla glue through the tow. My thought was that the epoxy would create a barrier ( probable no big deal). The other reason we had two people which make it easier and faster. One on the sheeting...

IMAC Carden Pro 124 Build, My Dream Plane

Obviously there are different hardeners to change cure time with epoxy. Gorilla glue does not give you much of an option on time. Again this was done just on a piece of foam non vacuum more to see how it penetrated the carbon tow and how well it bonded to the foam. Vacuum will make a big...

IMAC Carden Pro 124 Build, My Dream Plane

We just did two sets of wings using gorilla glue, We lay carbon tow over the foam. Tried something a little different this time. While Kevin was prepping the wing skins I ran a bead of gorilla glue down the carbon tow then I took a squeegee and ran the glue into the tow. It penetrated the tow...

IMAC JTEC Radiowave 3.1m MX2 Build

Well we have been pretty busy in the shop with other work and not much time to work on planes. I got Kevin motivated over the weekend and we laid up the wings for the MX. ( and a set for the Extra ). I have them pretty cleaned up and getting ready to set incidence and cut the ailerons. We...

    IMAC Wing Sheeting

Thanks Rick, When we use poly we squeegee the hell out of it while we do the sheeting, we also mist the sheeting before applying the poly. That way its about ready to kick and you can remove most of it. There is enough to make a good bond. haven't had any issues with the sheeting moving. We...

    IMAC Wing Sheeting

Rick, Is that thickness on a stab? just wondering on Length. We use a fair amount of poly so I think we will give that a try and let you know. Terry, I can see your concern about how poly expands and possible issue, with weight and a flat surface would not be a concern. I have a wing for a...

    IMAC Wing Sheeting

Follow up I am bagging at about 5hg. 7 to 9 is really sucking it down. Do you think that makes a difference? What about the thickness of the shuck? If we are making a 35% / 40% wing, typically our shuck would be about 4" max thickness.

    IMAC Wing Sheeting

Terry, obviously we have some foam around here so some testing is in our future. I would have never even thought of trying that or given it a try. Always think you need a dedicated flat surface. That could free up a fair amount of space let alone simplify sheeting Going to give it a try...

    IMAC Wing Sheeting

Terry, Interesting, Once you have it in the bag and the vacuum going do you just lay it on a surface ( presume fairly flat ) and let it cure. I wouldn't suspect you use any sort of weight while its curing. Of course I would of said you need the flat surface but you come up with some great...

    IMAC JTEC 2.7m Extra 300CS

Paul, great engineering. I may have a simpler way. Turn the fuse over and lay it on the bench. There is your reference side. Zero is set on the hatch side of the fuse. Two things, You need to hang F1 over the end of the table and your table is flat. AL

Other than an flat surface for the wings you could get away with a short one. the Fuse is all self aligning and interlocking so it builds straight. Al

IMAC JTEC Radiowave 3.1m MX2 Build

So I am in kinda of dilemma, My plan was to build a new 2.8 MX2 once back for NALL but while there I picked up a new DA200 ( for me not Kevin, he wants a MAG version ) So now it looks like I may build the 3.1 MX2 along with the 2.8 MX2 ( with some help from some friends ) We also have a new...
