    Yippee! What the postman brought

The mail lady just dropped off my new 20 ounce tank and some Tygon from Northwest RC. Hopefully I'll remember to weigh the new tank when it's ready to install to compare it to the old 24 ounce DuBro that was in it. Not to mention carrying 4 liquid ounces less fuel.

Yesterday I finally primed the elevator for Miss Moana. Today it's going to be red before I leave work........... At least that's the plan.;)

    Yippee! What the postman brought

These work awesome if your club will let you do it. It's just pipes driven in the ground that you insert padded conduit into. They'll hold most anything. We have several sets of them at our field. We have to replace the pool noodle pads about once a year (usually by me) because the padded...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

They look pretty nice, but I would have a hard time trusting that little spike that holds it down. Maybe the geometry is such that it's okay, but it looks short to me. Many years ago I saw an old Sachs 3.2 pull a screwdriver bigger than that spike right out of the ground.

Today I pulled the cowl off my Pilot Edge to try and find out why it's so hard to start. I did find out that the custom aluminum choke arm I made was a little loose, so just maybe the choke wasn't closing all the way. I'm probably not that lucky.;) I should have a new fuel tank for it tomorrow...

Today was my last day of doctor imposed R&R after having some outpatient laser surgery Monday. I did manage to hobble down to the workshop yesterday and finish the fuel tank and landing gear work on Miss Moana. I still need to prime and paint the left elevator, then she'll be done.

I ordered a fuel tank and lines from him the other day. One of my favorite places!

Yikes! Screeching metal and locked up engines are never a good thing. It makes my engine box issues seem pretty small.

Discussion The I’m going out flying thread 2018

Went flying today, it was hot and humid with nearly no wind which made for good flying and lots of sweating. A new quality control problem cropped up on the Hangar 9 Extra. On my second flight the airplane started making an odd whirring noise when going fast and then dropping to an idle. I...

I flew with Tony today and we discussed some ideas for a scheme. Lots of time to figure it out.

Yeah I can tell you the aileron servos will not be two sided taped in as they tell you to do. It probably works fine, but it would bother me for sure. We'll come up with some kind of mount. I know they have some trick ones for gliders and jets.

I was informed yesterday that one of these was on the way to my shop to modify the paint scheme. My flying buddy Tony has been wanting one and pulled the trigger on it yesterday. It's a Krill 39% 120cc Ultimate 300KS. He wanted to order a custom paint scheme, but wouldn't get it till next...

I really like my Hitec X2 AC Plus Black Edition for a small charger. I've never been able to make the phone app work, but who needs it.

    3D Printing General Discussion

I just happened to see a banner ad here on GSN just now for Markforged. They build industrial 3D printers. They were advertising a printer that prints carbon fiber and Kevlar parts. Stronger than 6061 aluminum at 40% the weight. It never ceases to amaze me where this technology is going.

They are slightly, but I've seen much worse. He's only got $1200 in the whole thing, and while it's old and outdated by today's standards, and the airframe is well used, it's still a bargain for a complete 40% airplane.
