The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Today we finished up the programing of the SmartFly by getting the Optical kill switch going. after that I was planning on re-plumbing the fuel system for him, but the tank turned out to be a total pile of junk. So, what do you do when a guy wants to find out if the used DA150 that came in the...

I spent the afternoon helping a friend setup the Smartfly EQ6 in an old 40% Aeroworks Extra 260. I have never done a Smartfly before so it was a learning experience. We installed new servo arms and I got all the servos setup and balanced with an amp meter and just need to make the Smartfy kill...

Much like David, @HRRC Flyer did the other day, last night I tricked a very old and completely dead pair of Duralite A123's into charging. They are at least 8 years old, and haven't been used in at least 3 years, but after some persuading they charged up. They are just going to be used to setup...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

When my buddy Tony got his big Sukhoi his wife called him at work and told him a truck was there with his new airplane and that the driver was going to stay until he opened it. He immediately went home, he only lived a few minutes from work. He said the driver had arranged it so it was his last...

Exactly. Fly a couple of timed flights, then charge it. See how much mAh you put back in and divide by your number of flights and then you'll know how much it eats per flight. Plus, load testing an A123 doesn't tell you much at all. Milliamps per flight is the way you know.

Wanted Saito FG 14 four stroke gas

I had mine in this first. and it was mounted sideways. After that it was in a Goldberg Ultimate for a short time, also sideways. My buddy had his in a Great Planes Super Sportster mounted upright.

It's a small inch pound clicker from Harbor Freight. I check it against the bar style I have at work and it works fine.

I've got the engine and pipe back in Miss Moana and also reinstalled the repaired fuel tank. Tonight I plan on putting the cowl and the tuned pipe hatch back on. The pipe hatch mounts also need a little work. Later this week I'm going paint the damaged elevator and after that she'll be air...

I bought an inch pound torque wrench for home just for doing prop bolts. One thing I realized after using it was I wasn't tightening them anywhere near tight enough before. With a carbon fiber prop 80 inch pounds is way tighter than you think it is.o_O

Rotisserie projects are always fun. It's so nice not to have to lay on a creeper to work. Especially when your old and fat like me. I have a 69 Cutlass in my garage here at home that I did on a rotisserie. I have yet to finish it. I chose not to do the final paint on the rotisserie, so it's back...

    An Oldie But A Goodie

Yeah a regulator can certainly suck the batteries down without the switch to separate them. Have you checked to see how many milliamps it's using per flight? Because of the flat discharge curve of A123's it's a good thing to know.

If I did carbon fiber gear it would be more for the durability than weight. The gear is close enough to the CG I doubt you would see much of a change.

I've measured several of my planes in the past to check length from the recommended CG point, to the front of the firewall, and from the same CG point to the stab tubes. I was changing from aluminum to carbon fiber tubes, and I wanted to calculate how much weight could be removed from the nose...

They would need to be totally custom made since they sweep forward :msn_slap:Bad designer, Bad designer.;) I would consider laying up my own maybe this winter. It's something I've thought about.
