The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

The last time I flew Miss Moana I tweaked the gear a bit, so I pulled it off today to straighten it out. I obviously designed it to look good, not to be easy to work on. To get to the inner bolt on each leg you have to remove the tuned pipe. That means the engine has to come out. It took quite...

I would, but the we had 4" of rain yesterday, so I'm sure the field is a swamp, and it's overcast and windy today, so I have a date in the basement with Miss Moana.

Yeah sticks are awesome, the bad part is Big Block, heavy car and a stick, adds up to broken parts if you drive it like it was made to. And whats the point of having it if you never work the right pedal.;) Automatics are way easier on parts, at least until you start using a Transbrake, those are...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Last night I pulled the Fortitude fuel tank out of Miss Moana to re attach the fill/drain line in the tank. It was fine until the first time I filled it with my new electric pump. When I took it apart, the vent line fell off too. On a Fortitude tank you CA the vent and fill/drain tube into the...

Wanted Saito FG 14 four stroke gas

I swore off four strokes after throwing money away on an OS 120 Surpass. My buddy and I both bought one and they were both total piles of crap. I still have both of them. I had a 70 Surpass that ran fine, but the 120's never would run worth a damn.

Wanted Saito FG 14 four stroke gas

Back in the 80's props from four strokes were constantly flying all over the flight line. It was down right hazardous.

There is not enough build to make it an issue, and I only sanded it enough for the Dolphin Glaze to adhere. Your right about how it works on balsa, that's why I used Sigment on the seams of the planks on Miss Moana, it sands much better.

I cut the hole back to about an 1/8" from the wood edge, then ironed a patch on, then put some CA around the edges and smoothed the edge out with some Dolphin Glaze.

I finally worked on the repair to Miss Moana's elevator. I hadn't worked on it because I wanted to run around the edge of the patch with some thin CA and I didn't have any so I finally got some today. After the CA I went around the edges with some Dolphin Glaze then sanded it smooth. Next up...

That's how it works in Illinois. Also, your insurance company should still sell you liability coverage.

I can highly recommend the Demon Cortex gyro. Pricey, but works great.

We had a guy at the field flying a T-Rex 550 helicopter when he heard the wind blow his Extreme Flight 60" Edge off the table. When he turned to look he crashed the heli. Not a good day. Dimes, at least the damage wasn't as bad as when the stand fell over with your 50cc Pilot Edge on it. You...

That works for me even though I certainly don't have room for a 40% airplane. Well I guess the new Pitts from Pilot, but that's a bit smaller.;)

I'm really glad you got to fly it for at least a while. If you haven't done so. I would give the fuel system a good look, I've seen a hard clunk line or a pinhole in a clunk line cause similar issues.
