Yep, that's it. We use Nitrate on the wood and then the first coat on the fabric because it adheres to those things better than Butyrate. Then the Butyrate sticks to the Nitrate. Rule of thumb, after you open the Butyrate can for the first time, put he Nitrate can away and leave it away! Lol

It's shiny!! After 1 heavy coat of Nitrate and now 3 coats of Butyrate I think its ready for a coat of sanding sealer, then color :)

Put the coat of Nitrate on the fabric this morning, and the first coat of Butyrate on this evening. 2 more coats of Butyrate tomorrow and some sanding, then another 2 coats Sunday and it'll be about time for color :)

Lol, my PAU Extra is the same way it drives me bonkers! That is one of the two main reasons for fabric on the Krier, that and because its what Grampa used.

I've used it, don't like it on models. Stits and Ceconite fabric are exactly the same they just have a different FAA/PMA stamp, and Koverall is just an extremely light version. It's all Dacron Polyester. But even the ultra light (uncertified) fabric bought from consolidated is 1.87oz Per...

It's really a matter of personal preference. I've used Monokote for years, I've used dope and fabric before, my dad has used silkspan (and he's got some for his Sig Kougar) they all have their benefits and drawbacks. Monokote/Ultracote is A LOT faster, and nowhere near as stinky (dope...

All the fabric is on and shrunk! :D I got the ailerons finished this evening and then doped some Japanese tissue to the aileron servo hatches and the elevator horn hatch. Tomorrow I'll get the one coat of Nitrate on the fabric, then switch to Butyrate and start filling in the weave

It's the last wing panel!! Both wings are now covered, I'll get the top wing shrunk tomorrow and hopefully get all 4 ailerons done. Then its on to dope and sand, dope and sand, dope and sand, dope and sand........................

The fuse is all done, and I got the bottom wing covered and shrunk. I've been working on the top wing today and should have it finished this evening. After that all that's left is ailerons, then the fun part begins :)

Started covering wings tonight, no pics though my phone was dead :( not much to look at anyway. I'll get some tomorrow after I'm further along.

Oh, the joys of building :) The first time you have it at the field though, and all your flying buddies are drooling over it, the paint saga will be the last thing on your mind!

Started cutting big pieces of Koverall this afternoon, and set about covering the fuselage. I used some masking paper to make templates, even though I have plenty of fabric, there's no need to waste it. Besides, I got something in mind for the rest of this bag of Koverall :) Bottom...

Yep I've used the talc trick, but it has given me issues before. Even the straight talc you can buy has lubricants in it. Everytime I've put talc in dope I've had problems with masking tape pulling up paint. I'm using Sig sanding sealer now, its just got a higher solid content to make it...

After I sanded out the second coat of Nitrate and ran a tack rag over everything, I decided that it has enough. The wood has got that good smooth plastic like touch, so on to the fabric! Rudder first, its a little time consuming but it goes on easy as pie. I used the trim seal...

You mean put a Monokote like covering on it? I guess, if it doesn't mess with the adhesive on the film, it would just be sealing the wood. Which would help keep smoke oils (or glow residue) from oil soaking it. I've never tried it, just keep in mind that Nitrate is flammable.

First coat is sanded out, nothing beats the feel of balsa after a sanded coat of dope. It feels like silk :) Second coat is on, I think its gonna need a third coat but its getting there!

I'm giving everything that the covering touches 2 coats and if I need more then I'll put a third were the seams will be. You want the wood to start to get a satin sheen and have a plastic feel. That way the Nitrate you put the covering on with melts into the Nitrate on the wood and kinda welds...

First coat of Nitrate is now on everything. I'll give it a second coat in the morning and a third tomorrow night if needed. Then its on to cutting fabric :)

I gave the man who trained the prop $20 and he gave me a quick lesson on commands, its really a well trained little guy. He followed me around for a few hours and then jumped right in the car with me ;)
