    Timber 110" Twin Build

Thanks for checking in guys! Unfortunately we found out my wife has kidney cancer a little over a month ago. I paused the Timber and focused on getting her out for fall adventures before surgery. I'm down in Seattle now helping her recover from a partial robotic nephrectomy at the University of...

    Timber 110" Twin Build

The build plate has a a significant crown in it. With the bed level and the nozzle set the proper vertical distance at the adjustment points it touches in the center. The VG was printed in the bed center and it was blowing out the first layer due to the lack of clearance. I'm in contact with the...

    Timber 110" Twin Build

The 3D printer arrived!!! I drew up and printed a vortex generator with the PLA that came with the printer. The part finish is amazing! I didn't clean anything up, this is how it came off the build plate.

    Timber 110" Twin Build

Thanks! Scorpion has been very delayed on replacing inventory recently, I'm glad to finally have all 4. Working on the cowling design now. Decided to keep the factory windshield and have a go at 3D printing a new cowl.

    Mountain Goats and RC Planes

Here's a drone image that accurately shows the slope. It is the flattest and most rock free spot I could find!

    Mountain Goats and RC Planes

Thanks Nick! It was steep! I had a bit of wind coming up the slope and there was too much incline to land into the wind. The only options were to drop it in carrier style with a tailwind or hover land. Still getting my sea legs on the hover landing without munching my twin tail:) can’t wait for...

    Mountain Goats and RC Planes

What an epic day! I managed to get the day off work and head to the mountains with some good friends. It probably wasn't a wise choice to strap the Ultra Stick on the wheeler and bomb through the brush, but it was a blast! No goats or Ultra Sticks were harmed during the filming of this movie. :D

    Idea! Avatar Update

I pulled this image from a frame of video and did a vector trace on it in Illustrator. Watching the sun sink bellow the mountains with a hovering RC plane has to be one of my favorite things!

    110" TIMBER Assembly Thread

Just found out Horizon Hobby honored the sale price on my kit even though it was purchased the week prior to the promotion. That made my day! They are refunding the difference to my card. (which will be spent on more stuff from Horizon);)

This is how Flex Innovations mixes crow on their planes. I downloaded the extreme Cessna 170 setup and tweaked it for a couple of my planes. On the Ultra Stick I mixed in the twin rudders to kick opposite directions for additional drag, but I've yet to deploy them. It's a neat way to mix crow...

    Timber 110" Twin Build

Little bits of progress this week installing the wing servos. Ground the trailing edge of the aluminum spring gear down to take out some of the stiffness and loose some weight.

The control arm on the tailwheel fork is floating on silicone tube bushings, so there’s some give.

Looking awesome! They really did a nice job with the lines of the cowling/windshield. Looks great on those big tires.

    110" TIMBER Assembly Thread

I was thinking about cutting in a rudder servo on the bottom fuselage just in front of the tail spring mount. I have this setup on the Ultra Stick and really like it. The wire spring setup similar to what you've considered has stood up to tremendous thrashing on the beach. With my rudders out on...

    110" TIMBER Assembly Thread

So glad to hear it Snoopy1! I've found the combination of the aluminum gear and soft rubber/air tires to work quite well on rough surfaces. Great job!

    Timber 110" Twin Build

Hahaha... Sometimes RC is an excuse to get out and go to the beach and sometimes going to the beach is an excuse to fly RC! Either way it works out!

    Timber 110" Twin Build

This week I decided to go flying every night after work. Summer is slipping by quickly up here in AK and I want to soak up as much as possible. I've been working on the Timber wings while waiting on the batteries to charge. No big progress, but it was gratifying to build and fly every day!

Ultra Stick 30 Twin First Hover

Yes! He has me well trained... :D I take a back road to the beach and keep it to 35mph so he can hang his head out the window. I usually work in remote Alaska all summer, but this year I'm close to home and taking advantage of it. It's great to load up the fam and planes on a weeknight. Feels...
