    Timber 110" Twin Build

.7 and 5.23 are correct for my plane, not sure about variation from the factory. Also 1.6” was a close fit inside my slot, I just wanted all the width I could get. It might rub a little.

That's good to hear on the weight. Even with my welded mount the entire power setup will be a little lighter than the 55.

I've hand made molds and a fiberglass cowl for a composites class. It was a blast, but very time consuming. With the CNC the capability of milling molds opens up a lot of possibilities. For now this is a method that I used on the Ultra Stick. It assembles fast, covers easy, and wouldn't be hard...

    Timber 110" Twin Build

I'm limited on the corner radius with how the nose is being constructed. I'll unroll the surfaces off the 3D shape and cut them on the CNC out of light ply. They panels will bend to meet and form the nose with some bulkheads. I can nip the corner off the plywood edge, but can't get into the glue...

Good deal, so I'll probably be 22-23lbs. Thanks Nick.

    Timber 110" Twin Build

I stuffed the cardboard template in the scanner, traced in CAD, and lengthened the nose out a couple inches to give it a little more sleek appearance. The firewall/windshield area tapers and arcs in several directions which makes it difficult to line up a one piece windshild/nose cone. I'm going...

What is your power setup that brings you to that weight? I ran across a summary of flying timber weights, but couldn't find it just now. I anticipate being low 20s. Probably around 23lbs.

I love the look of the stock cowl and windshield, they did an excellent job with the design, so it's a little hard to replace perfectly good parts. Twin motors blowing on those massive flaps will be a blast at the beach! I won't be modifying the fuselage, so it would be a quick swap to go stock...

The power has arrived! Two Scorpion SII-4035-250kv motors. I'm a big fan of the 40 series Scorpions, I have 6 of them now in various lengths/kv. They will be paired with Castle Creations Edge 80HV, 10s, and 16x10 Graupner E-Props. I'll have them spinning opposite each other with reversing for...

Thanks man! As much as my motor mount and the firewall allows. Even a little helps with the lines quite a bit.

    Timber 110" Twin Build

I use CAD quite a bit for projects, but sometimes you can't beat cardboard! I've also found an ipad with Apple Pencil to be very handy for snapping photos and drawing concepts directly on top of the photo. The entire nose/windshield will slide on and lock in place with magnets. It will be made...

I agree, it looks surprisingly sculpted for being made out of a single piece.

    Timber 110" Twin Build

I’m just experimenting with different materials to determine the best approach for function/appearance and ease of fabrication.

Glad you guys are enjoying it! All of my time until very recent has been with 40-60 size planes. I wouldn't have thought that moving up in size would make that much of a difference in overall experience with the hobby, but for some reason I'm enjoying the giant scale planes immensely. The...

    Timber 110" Twin Build

After some late night CAD work I came up with this updated aluminum tail fork. A single flat piece of aluminum with 4 bends forms the fork/pivot/control arm all in one. Beginning fabrication of the twin motor mount. (screws in motor mount are temporary and will be replaced with small bolts)

Do you know the outer diameter of those bearings? (where they fit into the plastic wheel)

Thanks for the kind feedback guys, much appreciated. I've decided to the make the 4th of July weekend a shop-cation. This time of year is busy in AK as an equipment operator. I've loved getting out in the shop! I doesn't get much better than the combination of RC and design/fabrication. What...

How have I not heard of these tires?... Are they soft rubber like Dubros or a harder plastic material like the Kavans Sig sold?
