    110" TIMBER Assembly Thread

searched the thread in vein, anybody know if the stock prop clearance on the 60cc Cub gear is less or more than the Timber gear? I saw the shortening mods, but I don't have a shop and drill press any more to do it right. still may attempt it however. I want to protect my precious Falcon prop...

on a positive note, I was able to take out much of the down trim having increased the down thrust and moving the engine up. Carbon prop made a huge difference. had to reduce the idle trim a lot. spins up much faster, pulls better up line, trying to take it a little easy, but failing :) did spins...

So much for the slats debate. ripped right off in flight, doing some rather extreme maneuvers, never saw it come off which is weird, but I noticed a trim change right away, had to put in about 3/8 right aileron and some rudder, wondered why and when I landed found out.

just looked at my gear after the maiden, my landing was not so pretty ,but drop in from about a foot, tires mashed down a bit, gear looked ok, but when I measured between them they had spread over an inch, and that's with my little stretcher bars in place, So i have decided to order the cub...

it's their modus operandi for years. There all molded ASH 31 lasted about a year, but they yanked that for specific structural reasons. That aside they do this all the time, it's not like the old days when manufactures held onto huge inventories or manufactured in house in the US, those days are...

Well that's typical for Horizon, and the reason I jumped on one when I saw it was in stock at the LHS. Guess I was lucky.

Mine weren't damaged but there is a subtle flat spot in the airfoil which won't affect anything at this scale, in comparing to a full scale slat they are close but not perfect. There is a lot of debate as to whether at these Reynold's numbers slats do anything to improve the stall, but anecdotal...

yes the upshot is the motor seems to sit lower using the tick marks they give you on the pattern, had to carve away the triangle stock to mount the engine and subsequently I think I got the engine mounted a little low the first time. LE slats, that's a good question, they do add drag at speed...

the firewall is different on mine, has balsa Triangle stock both sides and top & bottom, plus thin ply strips down the sides, so they must have made a changes.

I'm similar in that if I don't make trim adjustments right away, my brain just flys the plane and compensates, I took the engine out already and added a small thin washer (2) to increase the down thrust. I had checked the down thrust before I flew it when setting the engine and it was a shy 2...

well today was the day. did the first flight of my Timber. uneventful mostly. a big pussycat. running a no brand 23/8 chinese prop, and it's large and heavyish, rpms are down, but I also have it running rich for break in, so a falcon carbon is on the way today. :) Question for you veteran Timber...

took it to the field and adjusted the carb and did a range check today, was still lacking one servo but it came later today so next week maiden. tried a makeshift weighing. plane alone on a bathroom scale and me holding it then averaged to 20.5, lightest weigh in was 19.5 pounds. .

very nice, this was exactly the combo I was considering when I was thinking of making my Timber electric powered. But I didn't think that huge motor would fit inside the cowl, wasn't it a very tight fit at 80mm? I'd love to do some towing with mine, but alas no glider pilots where I live now...

Engine runs great, 3 flips after the pop, so easy, very impressed. couldn't run it long as I was in my small residential area, but i wanted to make sure I could start it before hauling it to the field for tuning and a little break in. nice little engine, throttle advances nicely out of the box...

Thanks, tank came plumbed, except for the clunk, not sure what the tubing is, don't know what Viton is, in my day tygon was all there was :) the clunk has about 1/4" minimum clearance to the back of the tank at any point, the clunk is heavy, I don't expect it will have a problem dragging the...

putting the batteries here allowed it to balance pretty near where it should, final placement will depend on what happens when I put on the wings tomorrow. don't know how that pic as an attachment wound up there as a duplicate.

The way a tail wheel should be done, except I had to drill two new holes closer in to accommodate the heavier shorter springs (took pic before I did this) plus some shots of the radio install. ignition module is under the 2 white zip ties Nothing blew up when I plugged it in so that's good...

well mechanically it's done, and just waiting on a servo for the stab, everything else is programmed, wired and plumbed. Here are some pic of my final push. hope to run the engine tomorrow.

getting close now, wings are all done and programmed with servos. I went for 3 position flaps and throws per the manual, plus full span flaperons and a switch to couple flaps and ailerons so that the ailerons droop with flaps, and another to couple flaps as ailerons in flap mode flaps act as...
