    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

OH I know that feeling well. I have been waiting and anticipating and looking forward to this day for nearly 25 years. It gives me a really fuzzy warmth inside to see that fuse finally taking shape. Thank you for being so elated as I.

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

Besides making headway on the Velox, (Photos coming soon) I also made some progress on the DS Mustang. After acquiring the necessary 1/4" square balsa sticks and 1/4" x 1/2" balsa strips, I made up the correct length "crutches" to replace the missing ones from the kit. Really pretty easy...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

I hear the Tundra is an excellent flyer. Sometimes we have to eat crow to save the face. Ask me how I know this?! Lol. I said the same thing. Yikes... but it is not so bad. There are worse things. A nitro burner on a foamy would be the worst. Pikot makes some really good bags. And most...

Nope. Just a slight distraction. Velox first, Mustang in between and after Velox is done.

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

Actually I have. I have been studying the plans for about a month now. The wood does look good and it seems to be very quality wood as well. However... I am not very pleased right now. Let me explain. I started tinkering this evening by going through the wood and inventorying everything. As far...

    Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

So, who wants to see a Don Smith 1/4 scale P51 Mustang? I sure do! I got a few things organized this evening so that I could get started on the DS Mustang. I am still focusing on the Velox. But I have to admit, the excitement is growing rapidly. So much so that I just had to pull the big Mustang...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I would say if it is lightly built with no supports, then yes they degrade. I had one years ago that became oil soaked, beat on and largely abused. It did start to sag in the non supported areas. But that was in my auto shop. This one is graciously supported with 5 laterally placed supports side...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

35" high, 32" wide, 96" long. I'll build a nice and more accomadating table next year. I really want casters. But this one should get me by for a while.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

That is the plan. Once it is moved to a much larger work shop. I honestly built this to get the big Mustang rolling. I may look at (UGH) buying a house this year. I hate the responsibility of owning a home. Gotta cut the grass, and gotta pay for all the upkeep and repairs, and gotta do all those...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I spent the day shopping for lumber and then assembling myself one king behemoth sized building table to build the behemoth Mustang on. It actually turned out pretty decent for being just thrown together in an afternoon. It is straight, level and "BIG". That is all that counts right? Hmm, even...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Zactly! I mean it's the way my brain is wired. Find the engine I really like, 3w redheads...Kolm...etc., build plane around it. Lol

IMAC Aero Tech 35% Velox Custom Build

Yup, same as yours. They ah supa! Planer? What's that? Lol... seriously, I dont use a planer. I use my trusty hobby knife to "trim" away the excess before sanding. I really need to get a planer. Just so used to doing things a certain way. (Insert old dog-new trick comment here) lol Oh yeah...

    3DHS 75" EDGE 540 V2 Assembly Thread

I am glad you posted this particular post. It reminded me I needed to get some advice from you fellas on a very good quality, ultra dependable ESC for the Kolm starter motor. You see, I am not able to read German/Austrian and the booklet that came with my 150 outlines a few things. I can make...

    Scale Pitts S1-T, S1-S, and a Challenger.

Wha….wtf? I get sidetracked for a day with my own build and you take your planes clothes off without letting me get a peak. How rude! Seriously, we're always interested in any tricks and tips we can offer one another. Bring it on brother.

    Awesome Video Thread

Oh hey, way cool. That is just really mesmerizing. Yup, one of the best videos of this amazing bird. But I really think the 400's are just almost not enough. Slap some bigger cc radials in that girl and watch her scoot. Beautifully crafted plane.

    Yippee! What the postman brought

So what you are saying is a 250 Valach Radial would be too much for a 40-70cc plane? I really think that a slight bit of overpowering is not a bad thing. :laughing:If it says Valach (or Kolm) on the engine, we can make it fit!!!!:lol2:
