This will be the plug for the new cowl. Call me crazy!

Scale 1/3 Scale Piper Tri Pacer Build - WE Technical Service Plans

Weather got me stuck painting so I decided to throw some mud at the cowl. 1/8" balsa sheet was epoxied and glassed on the back edge of the cowl to act as a dam and guide. This was sanded to the correct contour with a long sanding bar. The mud is quite thick and will take several applications...

Getting a nice trim is always a pain with fabric. Make sure the cut line has Poly Tac or Poly Brush on it to keep it from fraying. Holding a straight edge razor blade on an angle and pulling the fabric into it does the best job. Seen this switch on YT this morning, 6 year old video but the...

Cooling off here in the Burg, low 60 high with lows in the 40's next few days coupled with rain, might delay paint work.

Be careful with the heat, start at 220 and 250 will probably give you sufficient shrink. I had to recover the stab on the Super Cub first time around because the covering deformed the stab.

Yes you can, if I recall Chip from F&M keep the brush in MEK then dipped into the Poly Tak and it would thin it to the right consistency.

Turned the wings and ailerons gray with EkoSpray. I went over the wings at least twice with an iron but the EkoSpray really highlights all the loose tape and spots that need ironed. Thankfully the the EkoSpray can be heat smoothed.

I set the Dexter Morgan cut room in back of the garage today, might do a little spraying tomorrow.

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Seems like my next 3 builds require 5" wheels. I have 3 from the crashed Cherokee so I'm down to needing at least 5, three for the TriPacer and two for the Chipmunk. I have been buying up the Sullivan S883 wheels that I've found on line and still short one. While searching I found 5" wheels...

Scale 1/3 Scale Piper Tri Pacer Build - WE Technical Service Plans

Have the right side wire installed, both still need encapsulated. Cut out a new set of wing ribs using the SCS method while waiting for the epoxy to cure on the wires. These were cut from dense 1/8" balsa that wasn't very useful. I need to study the full scale drawing and locate the front...

Fitting 1/8"music wire from former 3 at the side up to the wing rib and back down former 4. These will be encapsulated with epoxy and milled fibers. Wish I had done this on the Champ, had to go back and fit the wires after the post cracked.

Scale 1/3 Scale Piper Tri Pacer Build - WE Technical Service Plans

The design is old, from 1989. I suspect several were built from the plans. The fellow I bought the plans and short kit bought the rights for Bill Effinger's designs. There's quite a few different designs at the WE Technical web site. The short kit was laser cut. When you build from plans...

Have the inner ribs fit and glued in place. It would be a real pain gluing the parts together as shown on the plans. Some things fit real well and others are way off, makes one wonder if anyone actually built one of these before?

Decided to add a little more strength to the upper part of the fuselage before cowl modification's. Installing a 1" wing tube rather than the designed wing jointers, a lot less parts. The photo below shows the original rib, three airfoil pieces, four odd shaped pieces of balsa captured between...

Scale 1/3 Scale Piper Tri Pacer Build - WE Technical Service Plans

I'm at a decision point now, the cowl is fitted however I'm not keen on the way the plane is designed. According to the three view the nose tapers in slightly from the windshield to the nose bowl. The plans show a greater taper from the windshield to the back of the cowl while the cowl is...
