To mount the nose pant, .100 thick disc were silver brazed to both sides of the fork, these were drilled tapped for 4-40 threads. 3/4" aircraft plywood disc were counterbored to allow the the dipping washers to push the pant material into the counterbore of the plywood with a epoxy/milled fiber...

I don't see the fuss over Hysol, maybe someone that has used it can shine some light on the subject. Seemed like the guys that built Cardens were high on it? Your firewall still looks thick. Is that carbon tape on the side?

David, You mentioned Hysol, what is the cure time for Hysol? I'm too cheap to use it! I really could never see the benefit verses the cost, if I need a nice fillet, mix up some epoxy and filler , dispense with a monoeject tube.

I use hex head servo screws for many gluing applications, remove when cured.

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

No problem Snoop. Pulled the nosewheel pant out of the mold. 1 layer of 2 ounce cloth and 1 layer of four ounce cloth, these were laid up and trimmer while green flush to the mold. After curing the inner surface was lightly sanded with 80 grit. Six ounce KEVLAR was fitted 1/4" below the part...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

I use .040 for vacuum forming because it thins out as it is stretched over the plug, actually ordered a couple of sheets of .060" the make canopies for my One Designs because .040 thins out too much. .020" is just too thin for a large flat windshield so .030 or .040 is what I would use. If you...

Got the nose wheel pant mold completed. Also pulled the first yoke out of the mold, I think I'll call this one a prototype and make two more.

You can get PETG sheets from McMaster Carr in small sizes. PETG I believe you would have a hard time forming poly carbonate without heating.

  12. TonyHallo

Scale 112” - Taylorcraft by HeyLuc & Snoopy.

I use cheap door and window caulking to seal my bags. Plastic drop cloths for the bag material. A roll of tape and a tube of caulking are about the same piece. Never used the tape but I am considering using it for vacuum bagging the Cherokee fuselage. Watched a video recently where a man...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Casting the molds for the yoke. Using 75-60 urethane mold rubber for final mold pieces. The aluminum balls had the perfect buoyancy, the balls will remain in the mold. Seen the Lego trick on YouTube, works great. The rubber has the hardest of a pencil eraser so it will yield to allow...

We modeler's are our own worst enemy when it comes to sound. Lost some of the flying privilege's at the closest field to my house last year because a loud plane and poor judgement. Put the cans in!

Welcome to GSN Gorilla Toast. Your hinges look very scale like, nice work. I'll keep an eye on your build over over on RCSB.

That does sound a little heavy for 112" span plane, my Champ built mainly out of spruce with a 7 and half pound four stroke came in at 40 pounds. 2800 sq inches and it flies rather slowly. Better to know now than later.

It has been over a week since the last update. Working at my daughter's house, almost done, still do a little work Cherokee in the mornings. Waiting for a shipment of epoxy and glass cloth to finish off the wing tip molds. Working on the nosewheel pant and control yoke molds. The nosewheel...
