I watched a Pilot 35% Extra 330SC do that two weeks ago, but the landing wasn't so graceful. That's why you should always run wheel pants, to help hold the wheels on. :lol2:

About the same as always, complaining about everything I can, especially the weather and weather guessers/forecasters. I want to go flying! I have all day open tomorrow and it's only supposed to be 82, but the damn wind looks bad.

That looks like it turned out nice! And yes Dolphin Glaze is a two part glaze so it doesn't shrink.

It all looks great Rob. I really dig the green dude. As Kermit the frog said "It ain't easy be'n green"

I took my cowl and cuff to work with me today and gave it the finger. :yesss: Actually I used my finger to smear on some Dolphin Glaze. Sometimes there is just no replacement for you first digit. After it cured I sanded it with some 120. I'll smooth it off with some 220 before I get it ready to...

My mother would also list everyone she ever knew that owned a watch and give you their life histories, and then say "To make a long story short" which is about as ironic as it gets.:)

Glass cleaner will actually take off some things that even really good wax and grease cleaner sometimes wont. I use it all the time on white cars where we're doing a blend and clearing over the original white. Sometimes the sanded white will get dirt smudges that the wax and grease remover wont...

A 30 pound airplane laying upside-down in a short bean field is not recommended for your cowling.;) I have another cowl, but it's not split and the cowl ring is loose. Fixing this one was way easier.

Rob it's kind of a crap shoot unfortunately. I've had different products over the years, but usually just use a lint free damp cloth. The problem is that solvent based wax and grease removers can effect basecoat. There are water/soap based ones that would work, or you could spray a little glass...

I've been doing some repair work on the cowl and cuff for my 35% Extra 300. I started by aligning all the cracks and using some thick CA and accelerator to glue them together. After that I used some glass cloth and resin to reinforce the back side of all the cracks. All I had was 1.5 ounce...

It was a mighty thud! I was amazed that it was not in small pieces scattered everywhere. It left a divot in the ground. But it lived it fly again, after $300 and some time. I even repaired that canopy and changed the scheme.

Yeah Mike was there a couple of years ago to witness a failure in a weak spot of the tail rotor drive system of my Trex550e followed by a failure of the next weakest spot which was my piloting skills, causing the helicopter to pile drive into the grass runway. ;)

It's actually my field, but I wasn't there today for the event. Most Saturdays just don't work for me.

I used a piece of Kevlar fishing line like a saw and cut between the cuff and the covering.

The way the cuffs are made on this Extra you use the silicone to glue them to the fuselage, not the gear like some. So cleaning it off Ultracote was like doing surgery.

I've been working on my Hangar Extra. I straightened the landing gear and repaired a few cracked pieces of wood near where it mounts. I spent one night just cleaning off the clear adhesive silicone that I used on the landing gear cuffs. Man that stuff was stuck! I still haven't ordered a new...
