MY YEAR HAS BEEN MADE! Dropped in to see an old friend of Grampa Mickey's the other day and was talking about the Krier and how I was doing my best to copy his. He told me he had a box full of molds that Grampa made and that I was welcome to them if I wanted them, Needless to say I quickly...

Sorry for the lack of updates I had to take a break and clean the shop as the walls were starting to close in on me, this turned into going through everything I own and thinning out the herd lol. I'll be back on the Krier by the weekend after I get some flying in, not too many good days left...

Makin' some more Krier Stuff! Made the "N" strut mount tabs as well as the flying wire tabs out of chomolly steel, laminated a couple of tip bows and started the sheeting process. "N" strut mounting tabs made out of .032 chromolly, attached to the rib doubler and glued in, the struts will...

Didn't get a lot accomplished this evening, but did manage to finish all of the spars. Once I get a form made for the tip bows and get them laminated up. Then I will set about making the "N" strut mount tabs as well as the flying wire tabs. They will be mounted to the lite-ply ribs before the...

Either a DLE 35RA or an EME 35. If I end up needing more nose weight I may get the auto start kit from Mile High.

WINGS!!!! With the fuse mostly framed up, tonight I got started on the wings. I decided to build the bottom wing first so that once I have it a little ways along I can build the landing gear, then it wont have to sit on the belly anymore ;) Got started by using my 1" Forsner bit to put...

I'm not sure yet, I'm going to do some experimenting before I start covering. I've used Koverall and Dope before but I've always needed to use a lot of filler. Grampa could put Koverall down so smooth he'd never need to use any, so I gotta learn how to do that myself :)

I have an app on my phone that lets me make collages that helps when I compare mine to grampa's, keeps me on track ;)

Well, when scratch building something of your own design (well mostly your own design) you have to be ready to cut something apart. The cabanes gave me one heck of a fit and taught me something in the process, while it is somehow possible to solder 4130 Chromoly, I certainly don't know how to...

The first few minutes of this video has an interview with Charlie Hillard when he was flying the full scale Krier in competition. I've never seen the full scale Krier in video before today!

The 4130 steel got here today, we ended having to go with .032 thick as the .025 was galvanized and really, really soft. I also made up a mock up of the top wing with the cabane mounts, so this evening it's on to finishing the cabanes!

So I'm still plugging away on the fuse. I added a few more pieces of scalloped sheeting in the corners of the fuse sheeting to give the Koverall a better fall off. I also have been working on getting all the stringers final shaped so I could start on the tail fairing. The extra pieces of...

Started putting fuse sheeting on this evening! Steel for the top wing mounts should be here tomorrow so I can finish the cabanes and then get the sheeting on the nose. After I get the sheets on the sides I am on to putting the blocks for the tail fairing on and get them carved. Slowly...

Now we're cooking with fire!!!! The proper sized sticks for the stingers got here from Sig this morning and I've been going to town since breakfast lol. Got the cabane as far along as I could until the chromoly for the mounting tabs get here from Aircraft Spruce. So I'm on to putting the...

Have I mentioned how much I really, REALLY like my K&S wire bender? lol Just about have the cabanes ready to solder. The top wing mounts on the top of the cabanes will be made of .025 thick 4130 chromoly steel, I got dad to stick a sheet of it on one of his Aircraft Spruce orders so I didn't...

Got my Sig order today, unfortunately my luck set in and the wood I was waiting for the most (1/4x3/8 stringers) were not the right size as they sent 3/16x3/8. Sig was absolutely awesome about it though, 5 minute phone call and the right stuff was sent out today, I got to keep the wrong size...
